1. An electrostatic cathode ray tube has a final anode voltage of 600 Volts. The
deflection plates are 1.5 cm long and 0.8 cm apart. The screen is at a distance of
20cm from the center of the plates. A voltage of 20 Volts is applied to the deflection
plates. Calculate

(a) Velocity of electron on reaching the field


(b) Acceleration due to deflection field
(c) Deflection produced on the screen
(d) Deflection sensitivity [4+4+4+4]

2. (a) Explain the following terms:


i. Doping
ii. Donor
iii. Acceptor
iv. Concentration
(b) What are semiconductors? Differentiate intrinsic and extrinsic semiconduc-
tors.

3. (a) A half wave rectifier circuit rectifies an alternating voltage v(t) with a peak
current of 200 mA produces a DC output power of 10 watts and efficiency
of 34.5%. Determine the resistive load connected and the forward biased
resistance of the diode.
(b) For the above problem determine
i. Maximum power delivered to the load
ii. AC power supplied to the rectifier. [8+8]

4. (a) Explain the input and output characteristics of a transistor in common col-
lector configuration
(b) Define current amplification factors α and β. Prove that the relation between
α
α and β is β = 1−α [8+8]

5. (a) Draw self bias circuit and derive an expression for the stability factor.
(b) Determine the operating point for the circuit of a potential divider bias arrange-
ment with R1 =40K, R2 =RC =5K and RE =1K. [8+8]

6. (a) Draw the small signal equivalent circuit of common Gate amplifier and drive
the expression for voltage gain.
(b) Discuss briefly the choice of transistor configuration in a cascade amplifier.

7. (a) Give the block diagram of a general feedback amplifier explain the function of
each block.
(b) An amplifier has voltage gain with feed back is 100. If the gain with out feed
back changes by 20% and the gain with feed back should not vary more than
2% .Determine the values of open loop gain A and feedback ratio β. [8+8]

8. (a) Derive the expression for frequency of oscillations and the minimum gain re-
quired for sustained oscillations of tuned collector oscillator.
(b) Draw a general form of oscillator circuit and explain. [8+8]

1. (a) An electron is emitted from a thermionic cathode with a negligible initial


velocity and is accelerated by a potential of 1000 Volts. Calculate final velocity
of the particle.
(b) Repeat the above problem for the case of a charged particle having mass equal
to 500 times of an electron and a charge same as of an electron that has been
introduced into the electric field with an initial velocity of 105 m/sec. [8+8]

2. (a) Explain the following diode resistances


i. Static resistance
ii. Dynamic resistance
(b) Prove that the reverse saturation current flows through the reverse biased
diode, when the temperature varies from T1 to T2 degree Kelvin is
T2 −T1

2. A sample of germanium is doped to the extent of 1014 donor atoms / cm3 and
5 × 1013 acceptor atoms / cm3 . At room temperature 3000 K the Resistivity of
the intrinsic Germanium is 60Ωcm and intrinsic concentration is 2.5×1013 cm−3 .
Assume µp =2 mn. Calculate

(c) Find the CE amplification factor when the CB amplification factor is 0.95.

5. (a) Explain the reasons for fixing the operating point of a transistor.
(b) Draw the circuit of single stage CB trasistor amplifier with potential divider
baising and explain the working of the amplifier with necessary waveforms for
