1) INTRODUCTION: WHAT IS THE LOCAL WEATHER?

Activity 1 - Shared book reading (Intorducing weather symbols through a book)

Ask students to sit on the mat and introduce the topic by asking them about the weather today during roll call time (was it sunny, raing ) and provide a brief explanation of the lesson. 6. As a class, encourage the inquiry by listing questions to probe prior knowledge from discussions and readings about the different types of weather and the four seasons. 7. Write down all the students responses on the smart board to make a Class list with the students name to use in science lesson (Appendix A). 8. Students listen to read a loud book What's the Weather Today? By Allan Fowler or choose a different book to share with students about weather. - Look at the cover of the book together; encourage children to read the title and also to make predictions about the story by looking at the pictures. -Ask questions while reading the book for paying attention and to probe what students know about weather by discussing -Update or alter the Class list after reading the book for students to use for future lessons. Note 1: Teachers need to make adjustments in relation to the planning, teaching and learning, assessment, reporting, environment and resources to meet diverse learners needs. Some adjustments are permanent throughout a student's education while other adjustments may be necessary only for a particular lesson. According to Gardner learn through and show their understanding in multiple ways. Children are either visual-spatial, learn using images to retain information others are Verbal/Linguistic these children learn through listening and talking opposed to pictures or images. Next there are Logical/Mathematical learners, these learners need to be provided with reasons why something happens to learn. Then there are Bodily/Kinesthetic learners that learn through real-world tasks. If teachers understand how children learn and show their understanding then teachers can maximise learning opportunities. For example,

using the illustrative picture book in the shared reading help visual learners ,interpersonal intelligence includes predicting what the book cover says about the book, Intrapersonal intelligence relates to discussing to create connections between what each child know about the topic, linguistic intelligence relates to in peer groups. Further, accessing support from specialist support staff and use of larger prints , lip reading for a child with a hearing/vision impaired needs are adjustments to accommodate those students.
