GeoLENs Indoor

Nearly 60% of all wireless calls originate or terminate from indoor locations such as office buildings, shopping malls, airports, hospitals, and sports arenas. For wireless operators and facility owners looking to take advantage of the demand for locationbased services, thats an opportunity and a challenge. Now CommScope provides the solution: GeoLENs Indoor.

he GeoLENs Indoor is the newest addition to our Andrew Solutions portfolio of GeoLENs location-based products. What is it? GeoLENs Indoor enhances caller location reliability and accuracy when other location technologies are compromised, such as when wireless callers are inside of structures or in urban canyons. GeoLENs Indoor can locate a target mobile to within a few meters. In multi-story buildings, it can locate callers to specific floors.

G eoLENs Indoor is an overlay location solution that integrates with existing Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) or wireless repeater systems. C an also be deployed with its own dedicated antennas. GeoLENs Indoor consists of: Indoor Location Server (ILS) Central control unit for systems of up to 3,000 remote Proximity Detection Units (PDU). H igh availability redundant architecture using COTS central servers and routers.

GUI for operations and administration (OAM) and to monitor and control system performance. P roximity Detection Units (PDUs) Radio signal sensors distributed across the area of interest to detect mobile transmissions. Support 2G and 3G networks and multiple bands (850/900, 1800/1900 and 2100 MHz). Two versions available: 1. Version one can locate a mobile in up to 12 location zones and is frequency agile across all cellular and PCS bands. 2. Version two can locate a mobile in up to 18 location zones [6 zones per frequency band (900/1800/2100 MHz)]. PDUs connect to the ILS via TDM or Ethernet. G eoLENs Indoor works with any handset without modification. G eoLENs Indoor produces high-accuracy caller locations when GPS and other wireless location methods cant. How does it work? 1. I LS (the system control unit) is requested to find a target mobile. ILS can receive location requests from BSCs (over Lb), RNCs (over Iupc), or SMLCs (over Lbis). Target mobile must be in an active session (i.e. non-idle) with the wireless network in order to be located.

2. I LS tasks the appropriate PDUs to detect and measure the target mobiles signal. ILS uses information received in Step 1 to determine which PDUs to task. 3. P DUs detect and measure the target mobiles signal and send the measurements to the ILS. E xisting RAN backhaul is typically used to connect ILS with its PDUs. 4. I LS applies proprietary proximity detection algorithms to determine the zone in which the target mobile is located. A zone is the coverage area of the antenna that feeds into a PDU port. I LS provides pre-provisioned location information for the zone to the entity that initiated the location request over Lb or Iupc.
