To enable these settings navigate to the Project Explorer, double click to select the System Environment menu and select the System Information sub menu. If PLC code is going to control the status of the Barcode reader these must be assigned to PLC registers e.g. D Registers. If the GOT is going to control the status then GOT registers e.g. GD registers can be assigned. The next step is to configure the RS232 port communications settings these must be set to match the Barcode reader communication setting.

The Device specifies where the data read from the Barcode will be stored. The Device Points relates to length of data that will be read e.g. 2 characters per device point. The Header can be set up if the Barcode reader uses a header, for example if a Start of Frame Character is used. Likewise, the terminator that the Barcode code reader uses can be set up so the GOT can detect an end of a message. The Writing Byte Order can be swapped by the GOT if the data received from the reader needs to be formatted. It is also possible to set up what type of characters are used to fill gaps in the data.
