The Bridge Project on GOP Immigration Standards: The House Immigration Debate Has Officially Begun and We are

and We are Ready FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 01/30/2014 WASHINGTON- Today, House Republican leaders released a set of standards that could frame an overhaul to our nations broken immigration system. We are encouraged to see the Republican Party enter the immigration debate in a unified manner. The release of these standards is a step in the right direction. The Republican principles, however, are cast very differently than the Senates passed immigration bill, S. 744, emphasizing the continued need for the House to move the immigration debate forward in a manner that allows for all sides to find common-sense solutions. As advocates for immigration reform, and as individuals whose lives have been directly affected by a dysfunctional system, we acknowledge the willingness from the House leadership to lay the groundwork for what can be a historic change to our immigration laws; and we remain hopeful to see serious efforts to achieve legislative action this year. We continue to believe that America must retain the principles that have given it its great character: faith, family unity, and the freedom for individuals to strive for a better life. As aspiring Americans, we embrace these responsibilities and strive to contribute to this great nation through hard work and dedication. We agree that we have an immigration system that is ineffective; that ignores our national interests; that is unable to sustain Americas global competitiveness; but most importantly, a badly broken system that allows for an estimated 11 million people to live and work within the shadows of society. We remain committed to discussing pragmatic ways to create an inclusive system for new Americans to shape and strengthen the fabric of our United States. ### Contact Media Relations: Claudia M Flores claudia@americanbridgeproject.org , 408.509.2438 The Bridge Project is working on connecting individuals from across the political spectrum to achieve immigration reform that is sensible and workable for all. www.americanbridgeproject.org
