Application

Bromate in water and drinking water (hint)

Photometric determination with 3,3'-Dimethylnaphtidine and iodide
Information for the application of Bromate

Dear user, We offer for customer, which are interested in measuring Bromate, an application, which allows analyzing Bromate within a measuring range of 0.003 0.120 mg/l BrO3- by using a 50-mm rectangular cell. The typical reachable accuracy of the method is + 0.003 mg/l BrO3- over the complete measuring range. For the analysis the following reagents and accessories are required: Reagents and accessories: Cat.No. 105043 Potassium iodide for analysis Cat.No. 103122 3,3'-Dimethylnaphthidine Cat.No. 100063 Acetic Acid 100 % for analysis Cat.No. 100519 Perchloric Acid 70 - 72 % for analysis Cat.No. 116754 Water for analysis Cat.No. 114944 Spectroquant Rectangular cells 50 mm Membrane filter 0.45 m Spectroquant NOVA-Photometer (NOVA 60 / 60A or 400) Spectroquant Pharo Spectrophotometer (Pharo 100 / 300) In the application it is described how the reagents have to prepare and what sample preparation must be done before analyzing. The detection itself is very easy too. Users, which are interested to get the detail application, should send an E-mail with your detailed address incl. phone and E-mail and the serial no. of the photometer to the following E-mail gunter.decker@merckgroup.com. You will receive the application at your earliest convenience. The Spectroquant photometers NOVA 60, NOVA 60A are since software version 24, the Spectroquant photometers NOVA 400 since software version 17 and the spectrophotometers Pharo 100, Pharo 300 are since software version 1.35 already preprogrammed with the Bromate analysis. By entering the code 195 the program can be started and the bromate can be measured directly. There is no userown calibration necessary. NOVA or Pharo photometers with a lower software version can be easily updated by a software update. Therefore download the method update program incl. the data free of charge from the Internet under www.qa-test-kits.com. Users of Spectroquant photometer SQ 118 can ask for the parameter list for programming the SQ 118. Therefore send an E-mail with your address incl. phone and E-mail and the serial no. of the photometer SQ 118 to the following E-mail: gunter.decker@merckgroup.com. You will receive the programming data at your earliest convenience.

Application

Interferences: Interferences by iodate, chlorite: >1 mg/l nitrite: >0.02 mg/l iron(III): >25 mg/l iron(II): >5 mg/l. 1000 mg/l chloride and chlorate doesnt interfere. Chlorine / hypochlorite as well as chlorine dioxide will be destroyed when using the above described sample preparation (evaporation step). Without evaporation chlorine / hypochlorite interferes: >1 mg/l
