1.2 The mouse (cont'd...)
The mouse allows you to control the cursor on the screen. It has 3 buttons, which will be named in the manual as (L), (M) and (R); (L) for left, (M) for middle and (R) for right. The actual definition of the 3 buttons is explained in the comment line. In the beginning, the comment line indicates (L) to "Activate".

2D Basic information
1.3 Activate
Activate an element by clicking on it with the mouse
activate Lasso (L) Hatch surface
Hold (L) down and slide until the desired rectangle shape is captured.
Terminology
Active point Active segment
The first point on which we clicked becomes the active point. The active point serves as the reference point for these functions: "Move", "Copy" etc. "to a point". The line segment on which we clicked becomes the active segment. The closest point is also active. The active segment serves as the reference for the functions "Stretch", "Move", "Copy", "Glide" parellel to a segment. (L) : - Activate an element when no other ones are active. We can activate by clicking either on a point or on a line which belongs to it. - If we double click on the same point, the program activates the next element passing by this same point. - If we click on an empty space (black zone), all the elements deactivate themselves. (M) : - Deactivate an active element (activate -) (R) : - Activate supplimentary elements when an element is already active (activate +) When we activate an element, it becomes pink and the active point is emphasized.
Mouse buttons
We deactivate all the elements by clicking on an empty space in the window(where there are no elements). When we hold (L)down, a frame corresponding to the movement of the mouse is drawn. We will call this rectangle "Lasso". With this "Lasso", we can activate all the elements entirely held inside the rectangle.
Clicking precision Radius 1 mm From the position of the cursor, cadwork will search for the point (or points) contained in the radius of approximately 1 mm from the position of the active point and the point clicked Cursor Active point

1.4 Definition of a free point (cursor) or an existing point
In this manual we will refer to the work mode without the "Snap pt" option. More information on this function in chapter 4.13
When creating an element (line, surface), existing points or free points can be defined. To understand the significance of a point, we can use the following analogy : Point = a nail. Line = an elastic, stretched between the nails. (1) 4 nails : (2) We stretch an elastic through these nails : (3) When we remove a nail, the elastic takes a new shape :
A line is composed of points on each of its angles Exact indication of a point (L)

1.6 Mathematical equations
It is possible to represent the mathematical equations as values. The result of the mathematical equation will then be taken into acount. Examples: 5*2-0.5 2*(4.5+6) (2.5+6+2.5)/2 = 9.5 = 21 = 5.5
1.7 Layer
With cadwork, we can draw many superimposed "levels". These levels handled individually are called layers. The use of many layers can be compared to the calking process where many sheets are superimposed. Each layer can have its own scale and then allows for a logical seperation of the elements to be drawn: house, partitions, ventilation, details. In this manner, it is always possible to draw with the real dimensions of the pieces, each layer with its own appropriate scale allows you to link it all to the printing paper format chosen. The use of the commands is defined in chapter 4.1 The plan shown here is decomposed into 3 layers: Plan view 1:50 Cut A-A 1:10 - Layer 1 : Plan view, scale 1:50 - Layer 2 : Cut, scale 1:10 - Layer 20 : Title bloc and frame, scale 1:1

Type of auxiliary line Remark : The dotted lines aren't identical on screen and on paper. On screen, the symbol for the dotted line is drawn in a standard format independant of the zoom function. This standard function is drawn much more faster than a real line. Colour 256 basic colors are proposed. We can activate elements based on their color ("Activate attribute") or make invisible certain colours ("Vision"). The colors on screen can be configured to correspond to a printing color generally used on white paper although the black background on screen is often prefered for working on a computer. Similarly, it is possible to configure the thickness of an auxiliary line based on the color on screen. 12 basic colors make up the main palette. The complete palette is found in a 2D drawing format in..\cadwork.dir\exe\2d\palette_cw.2d and can thus be printed out using the appropriate printer. Global size... along X/Y along X along Y along Z Modify the real size with a factor (p. ex. to bring to scale) "along X and Y" doesn't distort the object, however "along x" or "along Y" allows you to shrink or enlarge the objects (p. ex. circle to ellipse)

Type of line: nuage Draws multiple arcs of circles along the line which represent a cloud.
Type of line : opaque Renders a line invisible. Useful for hiding line traces without cutting them or interrupting them. Attention, equally invisible when the line is activated, only its description in the direct info zone (described in chapter 1.5) confirms that an invisible line was activated. Another possible way to find these invisible lines is with the " Vision " function , element points which become visible and that can be activated ex: A thick line can be modified into an invisible line to interrupt a form or another line
Type of line : a layer attributes the line type defined in the layer configuration Type of line : U1-U20:... With this function<modify U1-U20> 20 types of personalized lines can be saved. Dotted line with a motif which repeats itself every 10 mm and so doing with an interval ratio of 60%/40%
Line type : DXF Various DXF type lines can be chosen. Line type : factor The factor allows you to modify the size of the interval between the dots and other components of the line.
End type Hooks:all the possible combinations (only with the rebar module). The end type of the lines can be modified by a factor.

2.10 Add files, (cont'd...)
File name : xxxxxx.2d "Read only" 2D drawing A 2D file, which we cannot modify (impossible to activate, move or erase) is added. It serves as a background or model. This file can be saved as an external reference. The "Read only" files are managed on the same level as the layers. See chapter 4.
Text file Writes the content of a text file in a 2D drawing User wood
PDF file Allows the insertion of a PDF file in 2D drawing. A PDF file can be enlarged or shrank with the "7" key and equally turned/pivoted with the shortcut key " 4 " / "R ". The file cannot be calibrated! This function is equally found in the tools bar, see chapter 5.1. DXF/DWG File File name: xxxxxx.dxf / xxxxxx.dwg The DXF files (Drawing Interchange Format) allow an exchange of data between different CAD programs. They notably contain characteristics of each element (points, surfaces, lines, texts...). When a DXF file is loaded, we can also choose the quality of data exchange. The same element is rarely described in the same way in a A system as in a B system. Cadwork tries to keep up-to-date with the Autodesk standards (AutoCAD), in order to ensure compatibility with AutoCAD and many other CAD programs. It is recommended to not add a DXF file from a cadwork 2D drawing in use, all the existing data in a 2D file is erased before adding the DXF file. By a right click (R) on the DXF file, it can be opened directly in the cadwork 2D program. A double click on (L) opens the previous DXF file in the DXF/DWG viewer and allows 1) to verify the quality of the file and 2) to choose the parts to be loaded into a cadwork 2D file. For more info, see chapter 5.4
Manage paper space Load the paper space from Acad (Complete printing information) on top of window views. Conversion of layers See next page.
After having loaded the file, it is recommended to verify if the values correspond to reality (measure -> distance 2 pts) . We can equally verify if the coordinates are correct ("measure" -> "glob. coordinates of point"). The file is always loaded into a 1:1 scale. Scale 1:100 1:200 1:500 etc. All layers

2.10 Add file (cont'd...)
DXF/DWG File (cont'd...) Z all Many CAD systems (for ex. AutoCAD) do not know the scales and work with Units. The value of the unit (multiplication ratio) must then be defined by the user every time a DXF/DWG file is read. The table here-below illustrates the ratio between Cadwork and AutoCAD. The following factors should be used : Name of file : xxxxxx.dxf / xxxxxx.dwg
Unit AutoCAD
Factor 1

If there exists an init.2d file in the actual folder, it's settings (crayon, printing) will be automatically loaded upon opening the DXF file. If this isn't the case, it will be the settings in the init.2d file of the folder \cadwork.cat\2d\init\ DXF-conversion of layers When loading the DXF/DWG file, it is possible to have the layers correspond directly. For each DXF layer, Save as *.lsa file there is a corresponding cadwork layer. Procedure Prepare a 2D file with its own structure of layers. This structure can be saved as an *.lsa file by preference. This file is saved in ..\cadwork.cat \USERPROFIL\2d\Layer\*.lsa and can be loaded every time a DXF/DWG file is read. The information concerning the layers (name, color, line type) are defined and will automatically be taken into account. Conversion When reading DXF files, the choice of the "layer conversion" function allows you to make corresponding layers. Loading of existing conversion files. (Fichiers *.leg) Loading of *.las file (destination layer) No of "assignable" layer

3.10 Modify
Allows you to modify the attributes and values of the active elements. Refer to the chapters on basic elements: Lines see chapter 2.4 b) Surfaces Line value Curbs Texts Dimensions Nodes Plotter frames Laser frames see chapter 2.5 a) see chapter 2.4 b) see chapter 2.6) see chapter 2.7 b) see chapter 2.8 b) see chapter 2.9 b) see chapter 2.1 see chapter 2.2
Groups The modification possibilitles depend on the nature of the continued elements in the group. If the elements are all the same type (for example: only lines), all the modification possibilities unique to these elements are available. On the other hand, is many elements types are present in the group, only the general modification possibilities are proposed (global size, color, thickness, group name, on top, behind). Name the groups It is possible to give a name to a group in order to be able to activate it with "Activate attribute" "Groups...". We can give the same name to many groups which could then be activated together. With this goal in mind, we can also group a single element and give it a name.

Add laser frame Laser config... Renumber plotter frame Laser preview Print... We make the distinction between a plotter frame (for bigger printers) and a laser frame (normal formats A4/A3). We can then procede to the settings for these 2 types. The print preview is based on these settings and serves as a fast preview. Existing plotter or laser frames can be renumbered (when adding a new page for example). The plotter or laser frames can equally be created in a free format and be individually adapted to the printer and printing zone.

3.14 Printing (cont'd...)
Print with very own color palette The cadwork colors for printing using a color printer or plotter can be modified. The color palette can also be modified. The color palette can be exported prior. Export Options... ->"color.tab" file Exports in the current folder The color.tab file is then copied in ..\userprofil\2d. There, it must be renamed ex. : mycolors.col. The file extension must be *.col. Then the file can be edited in a text editor (wordpad, note-pad. but not word!!!) and the RGB (red, green, blue) values can be modified.
Activate your own color palette : Print Laser/plotter config. Conditions: you must be using a color printer/plotter After having checked this option, a windows explorer appears. Choose the *.col file desired.
Leave the drawing and restart again. The new colors are equally visible in the drawing and will be transferred to the printer.

Up until the version 15, the file menu was located on the bottom right of the screen. This menu has been moved to where all the other windows applications recommend the file menu to be: the top left. The functionalities remain the same though.
Save as... Saves the current file under another name Backup copy Saves a file with the date when it was saved in the folder of your choice. Model (init) Creates a cadwork 2D file with the configuration (G1-G16, printing, etc...), or the content (, title, layer) serving as a basis (as a model) for each new drawing.
Creates a zip file of the actual drawing with the attached elements. All the attached files sent to the zipped folder can be chosen or not.

4.1 Layer (cont'd...)
Working in the layer menu : - A double click on a layer activates it in the drawing. - The width of a column is adjustable by clicking, and while holding the (L) left mouse button, move the mouse . - The display of columns can be personalized by right clicking (R) on the title of the columns. - The size of the layers window can be stretched by clicking on one of its corners. - Many layers can be activated by holding the Maj key down at the same time as the left mouse button (L). Individual layers can be added to a previous selection with the Ctrl option combined with the left mouse button (L). - The names and numbers of the layers can be modified after having been activated by left-clicking (L) once on the active field. The fields, n and names adding up to 256 characters. - The scales can be directly modified in the window (just like names and numbers.) - The layers can be sorted based on their names or numbers by clicking on the title of the column. A second click reverses the order of the assortment (ascending, descending). - The text in the titles of the columns (names, numbering) can be copied/pasted elsewhere with the usual copy/paste functionalities (Ctrl-C + Ctrl-V) - The combination of the keys Ctrl-A activate all the layers of the window. - In the group/read only column, it is possible to define groups of layers (together). This allows you to manipulate many layers more easily. To see all the layers of a group, the group/ L-S detail option must be checked.
Activate layer In the layer configuration, choose the layer desired and click on "activate". It is equally possible to change the layer by clicking in the drawing with the left mouse button on an element's point found in the desired layer. Condition: the option "change layer click" must be checked. This option or mode can also be launched by a middle mouse click (M) on the layer button. A double click on the layer of choice in the layer window activates the desired layer and closes the window.
Delete layers Delete the layer(s) chosen as well as all its drawing content. Join layer "solder" layers together. The name and definition of the first layer are applied to the layer. Filter The filter menu allows you to search for layers based on the name. Establish the first characters of the name searched for and the list of layers is reduced to the layers with the name starting with the characters that were typed in. The star * (a very practical general search option used in computers) is used. Example: "Ech" finds all the layers with the name starting with these 3 letters. " *le" dins all the layers with the name ending with "le" regardless of the characters and the number of characters placed in the beginning.

4.2 Scale
In certain user modes such as wood user mode, the scale button is nothing more than an information button. The scales are defined with each layer. To change a scale, you must change layers by using the move into another layer operation. Directly in the layers window, it is possible to procede with all the operations that were done in the scale menu.
In wood construction, come still work with the "mm" displayed as exponentials : 1.234 1.234 . The setting for 3 decimals after the comma must have been configured prior to this.
