Hilltop Cadets Fall At Home To Non Conference Foe Swanton Bulldogs


WEST UNITY: January 21, 2014 Hilltop played host to the Swanton Bulldogs on Tuesday, January 21, falling to the visiting Bulldogs 66-54. For Hilltop, Jalen Towers hit for a team high 18, while snagging 11 rebounds while big Miklo Abner had 11. Freshman Quinn Smith hit for 10 on the game along with 3 assists. Ryan Booker dropped 9 on the night; teammate Tim Maneval had 4 points along with 9 boards and 3 assists. Nic Schieber rounded out the scoring with 2 on the night. As a team, the Cadets shot 31 percent from the three range and 46 percent from the field. Hilltop also snagged 30 rebounds in the game while committing 12 turnovers in the loss. Pettisville Lady Blackbirds Run By Montpelier Lady Locomotives On The Road


MONTPELIER: January 21, 2014 - The Pettisville Lady Blackbirds easily dispatched the Montpelier Lady Locos on the road on January 21, taking home the victory 56-30 For the Lady Blackbirds on the night, Dana Fricke powered Pettisville's domination of the Lady Locos, scoring 18 points in the game while teammate Lauren Hostetler followed up with 13 points. Audra Klopfenstein chipped in 11 points for the night, while both Mikala Avina and Jordyn Purcel each had 6 in the game. Also on the board for the Lady Blackbirds, Alexa Leppelmeier had a bucket rounding out the scoring for the Lady Blackbirds. As a team, the Lady Blackbirds shot 40 percent from the field while going 11 for 15 from the free throw line. The Lady Blackbirds also out-rebounded the Lady Locos 30-19. For the Lady Locos, Baylee Hageman led the way with 17 points on the game. The Indians fell behind 12-6 after one quarter. The two teams played even ball during the second eight minutes as Archbold took a 23-16 advantage into the locker room. Both teams came out strong in the third quarter as Arcbhold tallied 21 points for the period. Nine of the points came from Cassidy Wyse who was the game's leading scorer with 26 points. The talented senior collected 13 of her points at the foul line where she finished making 13 of 16 attempts. She added five two-point shots

On the night for the Lady Cadets, Hannah Bleikamp led the way hitting for 19 on the night, including an 11 of 13 effort from the free throw line. Destiny Denton scored 9 in the win, while Emily Armbruster dropped in 8 on the game. Kailey Creamer and LeAnn Joist both put in 6 on the night, and Kayla Settlemire rounded out the Cadet's scoring with 4. As a team, the Lady Cadets went 2 for 9 from the three range while hitting on 13 of 29 from the field. From the line the Cadets hit on 20 of 29 while bringing down 26 rebounds. Wauseon Bowlers Make Their Marks At The 2014 Pioneer Classic Tournament
LIMA: January 20, 2014 - The Wauseon Indians traveled to Lima to take part in the 2014 Pioneer Classic Bowling Tournament. The team unleashed their pin splintering power from the outset, but a power shortage in the first round of championship play cost them dearly as they finished eighth. For the Tribe, this was another first, as this was their first time finishing in the top eight of the 21 teams present. Wauseon exploded to an lead in the qualifiers, rolling a combined 1056 behind Peyton Shadbolt's team high 265. Nic Kearney rolled a 235 in the second game as part of his high series total of 630. After three regular and five Baker games, the Tribe was in the catbird seat going into the championship round with 3841 pins and the #1 seeding. Facing the #8 seed Elgin in the opening round of the championship bracket though, the Indians fell out of contention by dropping three Baker games in a row to the Comets, ending their tournament run.
