When public water systems are sold to private companies, water rates rise, often to a level that can literally turn off the tap for those who cant pay. Access to water is so fundamental to human life that the United Nations has recognized it as a basic human right. Thats also why UUSC is working to counteract the global shift towards private ownership of public water, and to defend the human right to water. Today, as over one billion people lack access to clean drinking water, its time to act. Because if we dont act now, that number will soon be a mere drop in the bucket.
