This treatment option for hair removal is great news for both men and women, since backs and legs can now be treated comfortably in about 15-20 minutes, with no need for topical anesthetics or messy treatment gel. For years, women and men have subjected themselves to painful, temporary methods of hair removal. Today, laser hair removal is a more viable alternative to shaving, waxing and plucking than ever before. In fact, nearly 1.3 million Americans underwent laser hair removal in 2009 due to its proven safety and effectiveness. The high-speed DUETTM produces a larger beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted is well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles (melanin). During the hair removal procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, allowing the hair to absorb the light and heat up. This significantly reduces the hairs ability to regrow, and results in permanent hair reduction over time. Because hair grows in phases, a series of treatments will be needed to remove the hair that subsequently enters the growth phase. Treatments are generally spaced 6-8 weeks apart to compensate for this.

Following laser hair removal the treated area may appear slightly red, but this is usually minimal and gone within a few hours. If you have tanned skin or have been exposed to a lot of sunlight, you may be asked to wait until the tan has subsided to begin treatment. Additionally, the treated area must be shaved close to the skin immediately prior to treatment - this can be done at home and we will assist in shaving the hard-to-reach areas in the office. Fortunately, photorejuvenation techniques have advanced beyond the painful procedures of the past. Our Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacial system offers comfortable and effective photofacials for the treatment of sun damage and visible veins. IPL uses short bursts of high energy light to penetrate into the skin and correct a variety of abnormalities. It has been used to effectively treat the redness associated with rosacea, removal of broken facial veins and brown spots associated with sun damage. One of the advantages of IPL is that it is non-ablative and noninvasive, meaning it does not involve surgery or destruction of the skin.
