Steps to move content

1. Copy the object files from the TM1 data directory to the IBM Cognos Express Xcelerator CXMD data directory. The CXMD data directory is located in express_installation_location\Xcelerator\Custom\TM1Data directory. Make sure that you only copy files that do not already exist in the CXMD data directory. Stop and restart the Xcelerator server to make the new objects available. 2. Copy TM1 Excel workbooks to an appropriate location in the IBM Cognos Express environment. Change all references in the TM1 formulas to the CXMD Xcelerator server instance. Deploy web sheets to TM1Web if applicable. 3. Recreate the object security:
a. If required, create additional groups in IBM Cognos Administration. b. Import the groups into the CXMD Xcelerator server instance. c. Assign object security to the imported groups.

Tips IBM Cognos Express Xcelerator supports only a single server instance which is
called CXMD. If custom objects already exist in CXMD or if multiple existing TM1 server instances need to be merged into CXMD, ensure that no naming conflicts exist. That is, make all object names unique, for example, by using prefixes. Do not replace existing configuration, license and system files in the CXMD data directory.

IBM Cognos Express Xcelerator only supports CAM security, so the security setup must be recreated on the CXMD server. This also means that client computers (users) must be reassigned to tasks if TM1 Workflow is used. Before you move any content, be sure to back up your IBM Cognos Express Xcelerator environment using the steps provided in the document Managing IBM Cognos Express. Also back up the TM1 environment(s) that you are about to migrate.

Moving content developed in IBM Cognos Executive Viewer to IBM Cognos Express Advisor
If you have developed applications in IBM Cognos Executive Viewer, you can move the content to IBM Cognos Express Advisor. The following diagram shows how IBM Cognos Executive Viewer content maps to IBM Cognos Express Advisor:

Steps to move content

1. Export all views that reside in the Executive Viewer Repository to the file system. This can be done using Executive Viewer Client or Executive Viewer Desktop Explorer. Recreate the folder structure in the IBM Cognos Express content store using IBM Cognos Connection and set the security, then copy the exported view files to the IBM Cognos Express Advisor environment and import them into the content store using IBM Cognos Express Advisor Client. 2. Export all images from the repository to the file system using Executive Viewer Desktop Explorer. Alternatively, you can use the original image files that were uploaded to the repository. Copy the image files to the appropriate folder on the IBM Cognos Express server: express_installation_location\webapps\p2pd\Advisor\Images. 3. Copy custom map libraries from the executive_viewer_installation_location\Server\Maps folder in the Executive Viewer

environment to the express_installation_location\webapps\p2pd\Advisor\Maps folder on the IBM Cognos Express server. 4. Copy Client API scripts (HTML pages) from the Executive Viewer environment to the IBM Cognos Express Advisor environment. Adjust the scripts to the new environment. Example: server references, class id, and so on. 5. Create the required data sources and packages in the IBM Cognos Express environment using IBM Cognos Express Manager or Framework Manager. 6. Reconnect the views to the appropriate packages using IBM Cognos Express Advisor Client Tips Only View files that were saved in the Executive Viewer 9.4 format (XML) can be
opened in IBM Cognos Express Advisor.

IBM Cognos Express Advisor only supports connections to the IBM Cognos Express Xcelerator server instance CXMD. IBM Cognos Express Advisor supports CAM security only. When a migrated view is reconnected to a package referencing a database (cube) that does not exactly match the original dimension and member names, manual adjustments may be required. Executive Viewer features not supported in IBM Cognos Express Advisor include: o Web Service API o Desktop Explorer / .Net Explorer o Distributed processing o Search paths Executive Viewer features that were implemented slightly differently in IBM Cognos Express Advisor include the following: o Client API o Preloading o Shortcuts For more information, see the IBM Cognos Express Advisor documentation.

Before you move any content, you must back up your IBM Cognos Express Advisor environment using the steps provided in the document Managing IBM Cognos Express. Also, back up the Executive Viewer environment that you are about to migrate.

Moving content developed in IBM Cognos 8 BI Mid-Market Reporting to IBM Cognos Express Reporter
Use the features that exist in IBM Cognos 8 and IBM Cognos Express to move your applications from a Cognos 8 BI Mid-Market Reporting environment to IBM Cognos Express Reporter. The following diagram shows how IBM Cognos 8 BI content maps to IBM Cognos Express Reporter:

Steps to move content 1. In IBM Cognos 8, export your developed content using the Export feature in IBM Cognos Administration to create a deployment. You can find more information on creating a deployment specification in the Administration and Security Guide that comes with your IBM Cognos 8 BI installation. When creating the deployment, only select the content that you would like to make available in the new environment instead of exporting the entire content store.

2. Copy the deployment archive to the IBM Cognos Express environment. The default location for the deployment archive is cognos_express_installation_location\deployment. 3. Using the Import option in Cognos Administration on the target computer, perform the import to move the required IBM Cognos 8 BI content into the Cognos Express Reporter environment.

Tips This migration overview is based on the scenario of moving content from IBM
Cognos 8.4 BI Mid-Market Reporting to IBM Cognos Express 9.0.

We recommend that you perform some functional testing after installing IBM Cognos Express 9.0 before you upgrade. In addition, you may want to create a trial upgrade environment first and upgrade only a subset of your IBM Cognos 8 BI content to ensure that you will achieve the expected outcome. More information on this and planning your upgrade can be found in the Installation and Configuration Guide that accompanies IBM Cognos 8 BI. It is good practice to back up your Cognos 8 environment by backing up your content store database before you perform any migration activities. Security content that was predefined in IBM Cognos 8 is not automatically transferred as part of this deployment process. If you deploy access permissions to the target environment, the referenced users and groups must exist in the target environment. For access permissions to work after entries are deployed, the source environment and target environment must use the same authentication provider with the same configuration. If the roles used in IBM Cognos 8 are required in the target environment, they must be re-created using IBM Cognos Administration. The deployment will not capture any Framework Manager model files that were saved to individual client computers. Ensure that you tell everyone who is using Framework Manager to develop models and packages that they must back up their files before they install a new version of Framework Manager. After the new version of the client software is in place, they can copy the model files into the new location for use with the version of Framework Manager that comes with IBM Cognos Express Reporter. For more information about moving your IBM Cognos 8 BI content, see the IBM Cognos Administration and Security Guide.

Moving content between separate instances of IBM Cognos Express 9.0

You can move content from one instance of IBM Cognos Express 9.0 to another instance. The following diagram shows how the source content maps to the target content:

Steps
1. On the source computer, run the backup scripts to create the backup files as described in the Release Notes that accompany your IBM Cognos Express 9.0 installation. The files that are created contain the contents of the IBM Cognos Express content store and all Xcelerator server data. 2. Copy the backup files to the new location or ensure that you can access them from the target environment via a network connection. 3. Follow the steps described in the IBM Cognos Express 9.0 Release Notes to run the scripts that restore all IBM Cognos Express content to the target environment. This requires stopping and starting the associated IBM Cognos Express services. Tips For the backup and restore process to work properly, the Cognos Express products on the target computer must match the products and environment on the source computer from which the backup was performed. For example, if the source computer has Cognos Express Reporter and Cognos Express Xcelerator installed,

2009 IBM

Version 10/22/2009

Deploying IBM Cognos Express

these must also be installed on the target computer before any content is restored to it.

If you have IBM Cognos Express Advisor or IBM Cognos Express Xcelerator installed, ensure that the same common administrator username and password were used to install IBM Cognos Express on both the source and target server. If different usernames and passwords are used, the administrator privileges will be lost. If the two installations use a different common administrator username and password, you must backup and restore both the IBM Cognos Express content store and the Xcelerator database in order for the two instances to have the same security. Restoring your Xcelerator content will overwrite the existing data in your CXMD database. Unless you are restoring to the same location from which you backed up, you must not overwrite the original tm1s.cfg and TM1.lic files which are located in the folder express_installation_location\Xcelerator\Custom\TM1Data\CXMD. Ensure that you refer to the instructions in the Release Notes for more details. To move content from a trial version on IBM Cognos Express to a production version, you can install the production version on a different server and move the application to that server. Alternatively, if the production version is to be installed on the same computer, you must perform the backup before uninstalling the trial version, and then install the production version before restoring the application. This is necessary since you cannot install multiple instances of IBM Cognos Express on the same server. The production version of IBM Cognos Express is only supported on Windows 2003 Standard Edition 64-bit. Therefore, if the trial version of the software was installed on a 32-bit Windows operating system, you must move to a new server to install the production version. Please visit www.ibm.com/support for detailed information on supported environments. If you use custom maps or images with IBM Cognos Express Advisor, be sure to copy the appropriate files from the source environment to the target environment. Maps are located in the following location: express_installation_location\webapps\p2pd\Advisor\Maps Images are located in the following location: express_installation_location\webapps\p2pd\Advisor\Images

Tips This migration overview is based on the scenario of upgrading from IBM Cognos
Express 9.0 to IBM Cognos Business Intelligence 8.4 FP2. Moving to earlier versions of IBM Cognos 8 Business Intelligence is not supported.

We recommend that you perform some functional testing after installing Cognos 8.4 before you upgrade. In addition, you may want to create a trial upgrade environment first and upgrade only a subset of your IBM Cognos Express Reporter content to ensure that you will achieve the expected outcome. For more information on this and planning your upgrade can be found in the Installation and Configuration Guide that accompanies IBM Cognos 8.4. Before you move any content, ensure that you back up your IBM Cognos Express Reporter environment using the steps provided in the document Managing IBM Cognos Express. This is particularly important if you are planning to install IBM Cognos 8.4 on the same computer that you are using for IBM Cognos Express. Even if this is not the case, it is still good practice to perform the backup and is highly recommended. Security content that has been predefined in IBM Cognos Express Manager or in IBM Cognos Administration is not automatically transferred as part of this deployment process. If you deploy access permissions to the target environment, the referenced users and groups must exist in the target environment. For access permissions to work after entries are deployed, the source environment and target environment must use the same authentication provider with the same configuration. If the IBM Cognos Express roles are required in the target environment, they must be re-created using Cognos Administration. The content store for IBM Cognos 8.4 must be configured prior to the migration and a separate database is required for this purpose. This requirement does not exist when you use IBM Cognos Express, which automatically installs the content store for you. See the IBM Cognos 8.4 Installation and Administration Guide for more information on setting up the content store as part of your installation. If you have content from IBM Cognos Express Advisor and are upgrading to IBM Cognos 8.4 FP2, you may encounter warnings and errors when importing your content to the IBM Cognos 8.4 environment. The IBM Cognos Express Advisor entries may not be created successfully. However all other content will be transferred. If you wish to avoid these errors, deselect the IBM Cognos Express Advisor content when creating the deployment specification in IBM Cognos Express. The deployment will not capture any Framework Manager model files that were saved to individual client computers. Ensure that you tell everyone who is using Framework Manager to develop models and packages that they must back up their files before they install a new version of Framework Manager. After the new version of the client software is in place, they can copy the model files into the new
