3. Remove Ignition Key to prevent starting.

~CAUTION
Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and secure it so that it cannot accidentally contact spark plug. This will reduce the possibility of unauthorized starting of engine while equipment is unattended.

B. Warm Engine Start (Engine still warm from recent running) 1. Grasp the starter rope handle and pull out rapidly. Return rope handle slowly. Repeat until engine starts. 2. If engine fails to start after a number of attempts, pull choke wire out. Repeat step one until engine starts. After engine starts, push choke wire in gradually.

TO ENGAGE DRIVE
1. With the engine running near top speed, move shift lever into one of the five "FORWARD" positions or two "REVERSE" positions. Select a speed appropriate for the snow conditions that exist. Use the slower speeds until you are familiar with the operation of the snow thrower. 2. Squeeze the drive clutch grip (located on the left handle) and the snow thrower will move. Release it and the drive motion will stop.

Once the snow blower has been in operation, caution should be exercised in the area of the muffler and surrounding surfaces. See figure 14.

~CAUTION
NEVER move shift lever without releasing the drive clutch. first

NEVER attempt to clean chute or make any adjustments while engine is running. DRIVE AND AUGER CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT To check for correct adjustment on either the drive clutch or the auger clutch, leave the clutch grip disengaged (clutch grip up). There should be no tension on the extension spring which connects the control cable to the bracket. If there is tension, unhook the spring from the bracket and adjust the nut at the bottom of the cable. Reassemble and check again for tension. Repeat if necessary. SHIFTING ROD ADJUSTMENT Hole in Shift Lever Shifting ----.~ Rod

To check for the correct adjustment of the shifting rod, first place the shift lever in the neutral position. In this position, the drive clutch bracket should be showing through the locating slot in the bottom frame cover at the rear of the snow thrower. See figure 15.

FIGURE 16. CHUTE ASSEMBLY ADJUSTMENT

The distance snow is thrown can be changed by adjusting the angle of the chute assembly. The sharper the angle, the shorter the distance snow is thrown. See figure 17. To adjust chute assembly, loosen the hand knob. Pivot the top of the chute assembly to position desired. Retighten the hand knob. Chute Adjusted to Sharpest Angle

FIGURE 15. If the drive clutch bracket is not showing, remove the cotter pin which secures the shifting rod to the shift lever. See figure 16. Screw the shifting rod in or out until it fits into the hole in the shift lever (drive clutch must still be showing in the locating slot). When shifting rod is adjusted to the correct length, insert the end into the hole in the shift lever. Secure with cotter pin. 8

FIGURE 17.

SKID SHOE ADJUSTMENT The space between the shave plate and the ground can be adjusted. For close snow removal, place skid shoes in the low position. Use middle or high position when area to be cleared is uneven. See figure 18. To adjust skid shoes, loosen the four hex nuts and carriage bolts. Move skid shoes to desired position. This adjustment can be made easily by placing a piece of cardboard or other suitable object of desired thickness under the shave plate. Then adjust the shoe to ground level. Retighten nuts and bolts securely.

FIGURE 19.

Skid Shoe

FIGURE 18.

DRIVE WHEELS ADJUSTMENT The wheels may be adjusted for three different methods of operation. The adjustment is made by placing a klick pin in one of two different holes as shown in figure 19.

1. Free Wheeling Operation-Place both klick pins in the outside hole in the axle. This position allows easier movement when the engine is not running. 2. Both Wheels Driving-Place both klick pins in the hole in the hub next to the rim. This position is good for heavy snow as there is power drive in both wheels. 3. One Wheel Driving-Place klick pin in the outside axle hole on one side and in the hole in the hub next to the rim on the other. This position gives power drive to one wheel only, making the unit easier to maneuver. 9

MAINTENANCE
SHAVE PLATE AND SKID SHOES The shave plate and skid shoes on the bottom of the snow thrower are subject to wear. They should be checked periodically and replaced when necessary. To remove shave plate, remove the carriage bolts, lock washers and hex nuts which attach it to the snow thrower housing. Reassemble new shave plate, making sure heads of the carriage bolts are to the inside of the housing. Tighten securely. To remove skid shoes, remove the four carriage bolts, belleville washers and hex nuts which attach them to the snow thrower. Reassemble new skid shoes with the four carriage bolts, belleville washers (cupped side goes against skid shoes) and hex nuts. BELT REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT

2. Remove the plastic belt cover on the front by removing the three self-tapping screws and flat washers. See figure 20. 3. Remove the large shoulder bolt and spacer on the right hand side of the engine pulley with an adjustable wrench. Remove the shoulder bolt and spacer from the idler bracket assembly with one hand. Use the other hand to catch the belleville washer which is on the shou Ider bolt between the id ler bracket and engine plate. See figure 21.

Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug and ground. Drain gasoline from the fuel tank, or place a piece of plastic film underneath the gas cap to prevent gasol i ne from leaking. To remove and replace either the auger drive belt or the drive belt, proceed with the following instructions. 1. Remove the chute crank at the chute assembly by removing the belleville washer and lock nut. A 1/2" wrench is required.

~CAUTION
Check engine and snow thrower frequently for loose nuts, bolts, etc., and keep these items tightened.

DRAIN FUEL INTO APPROVED CONTAINER OUTDOORS, AWAY FROM OPEN FLAME. Run engine until engine starts to falter, then use choke to continue engine operation until all fuel in tank and carburetor is exhausted. Remove fuel line at tank or carburetor and drain any remaining gasoline from system.

OFFSEASON STORAGE

~CAUTION
NEVER STORE ENGINE WITH FUEL IN TANK INDOORS OR IN POORLY VENTILATED ENCLOSURES WHERE FUEL FUMES MAY REACH AN OPEN FLAME, SPARK OR PILOT LIGHT AS ON A FURNACE, WATER HEATER, CLOTHES DRYER, ETC. If unit is to be stored storage as follows: over 30 days, prepare for Fuel left in engine during warm weather deteriorates and will cause serious starting problems. 2. Remove spark plug and pour one (1) ounce of engine oil through spark plug hole into cylinder. Crank engine several times to distribute oil. Replace spark plug. 3. Clean unit by removing any dirt from exterior of engine and equipment. 4. Follow lubrication 10. recommendations on page

1. Remove all gasoline from fuel tank to prevent gum deposits from forming on these parts and causing possible malfunction of engine.
