1 am an ambitious $ea+her of :+ien+e and have re+ently emigrated from the 89 to develo5 and broaden my +areer in Australia) 1 have eD5erien+e a+ross a wide range ability grou5s and ages with my training and eD5erien+e as a tea+her as a ,hemistry s5e+ialist) 1 also have re+ent eD5erien+e tea+hing <ear 1% 0hysi+s at AubbardGs :+hool in =ilton, ueensland) At AubbardGs 1 was res5onsible for delivering an intensive bridging +ourse to <ear 1% and mature students re@uiring 0hysi+s as a 5rere@uisite sub>e+t for university +ourses) 1t was a highly en>oyable but +hallenging ! wee6s +overing the ma>ority of <ear 1% 0hysi+s) As well as 5lanning and delivering the lessons, 1 also s5ent time tutoring and guiding students to ensure that they have the re@uired s6ills to su++eed with the degrees theyGre 5ursuing whilst a+hieving a 1""K 5ass rate for the s+hool) 0rior to this 1 was a tea+her for two years at 9emnal $e+hnology ,ollege, in :outh (ast London) As a training s+hool 9emnal fo+ussed heavily +ontinuing 5rofessional develo5ment with Assessment for Learning at the heart of everything) 4egular ,0D sessions, de5artmental meetings and re+i5ro+al lesson observations ensured that 1 was able to +onsistently 5lan and deliver lessons in whi+h students were able to +he+6 their a+hievement and understanding at regular intervals) $he lessons were 5rimarily student lead and 5ut together with innovative and +reative 5lanning to ensure a high level of attainment a+ross different age and ability ranges) Furthermore a genuine interest in my sub>e+t allows me to +onvey enthusiasm and +a5ture the interest and attention of learners with the breadth my sub>e+t 6nowledge eDtending well beyond the standard s+ien+e +urri+ulum) 1 have found that the de5loyment of this broader base of 6nowledge is effe+tive with all ability grou5s, hel5ing to nurture their interest and enthusiasm for s+ien+e) During my se+ond year at 9emnal 1 held the 5osition of 9ey :tage 3 +oordinator for s+ien+e, with res5onsibility for develo5ing s+hemes of wor6 and eDaminations for <ears '39) 1 liaised +losely with the AoD and the 9:! +oordinator to ensure that 9:3 5rovided students with the re@uired levels of s+ientifi+ litera+y and 5ra+ti+al s6ills when starting their L,:( assessments) A 6ey 5art of this strategy was a +om5lete restru+ture of the <ear 9 s+heme of wor6 to ensure students were able to a++ess the new eDams and to maintain and im5rove grades following the +loser s+rutiny 5la+ed on litera+y in the s+ien+e +urri+ulum) $he role also involved administrative duties su+h as +ollating data to assess 5rogress and wor6ing with +olleagues to sure students were in the +orre+t set for their ability) As lead tea+her of the $ri5le :+ien+e +ohort 1 hel5ed foster in my students a holisti+ overview of ,hemistry rather than basing their 6nowledge and eDam su++ess on fa+t retention and regurgitation alone) $hrough long term 5lanning and ad>ustments to the eDisting s+heme of wor6 1 was able to regularly review 5revious to5i+s and in+or5orate 5ra+ti+als whi+h lin6ed eD5li+itly with the su++ess +riteria) As a +onse@uen+e students @ui+6ly develo5ed the ability to thin6 +riti+ally and ma6e +onne+tions between to5i+s without 5rom5ting whilst retaining their initial enthusiasm for the sub>e+t) 1 have eD5erien+e in dealing with a wide variety of +hallenging behaviours and 1 had the o55ortunity to develo5 a range of strategies to manage behaviour in +lassroom settings and around the s+hool) 8ltimately, 1 found that having firm, +onsistent a55roa+h along with a good ra55ort with the students ensured their +oo5eration in +reating an eD+ellent wor6ing environment in whi+h everybody is able to a+hieve) Luiding my own tutor grou5 for two years has left me with a 5assion for 5astoral +are, in whi+h 1 am able to hel5 students wor6 through a wide range of s+hool and home related 5roblems) $ea+hing a ,itiJenshi5 +lass every wee6 was also a great way to relate and begin to understand how different students see their 5la+e within their s+hool and wider +ommunity) 8ltimately 1 feel that being able to guide students towards ma6ing good life de+isions and ma6ing +onsidered +hoi+es is one of the most im5ortant 5arts of what we do as tea+hers) $han6 you for ta6ing the time to read my a55li+ation 1 very mu+h ho5e that they have demonstrated that 1 have mu+h to offer and +ould ma6e a signifi+ant +ontribution to your s+ien+e de5artment and the wider s+hool +ommunity) 0lease do not hesitate to +onta+t me at any time via my mobile 5hone number or email address, as is most +onvenient to you) <ours sin+erely
