Shoplifting is Americas #1 property crime. 25% of shoplifters are children (about 5,750,000) 55% of adult shoplifters started in their teens 86% of kids know other kids who shoplift Shoplifting Leads to other crimes The majority of shoplifters do so Not as a result of financial pressures but due to social, peer, and personal pressure. Shoplifting will result in child having a juvenile record and affecting future opportunities.
Chronic Shoplifters: These are addicts who buy drugs or are hardened criminals who steal for resale and profit as a life-style. These individuals frequently commit other types of crimes and lack any conscience or guilt.
Non-Chronic (Novice) Shoplifters: These are people who make up the majority of shoplifters who steal for a variety of reasons to common life situations and their inability to cope. These people rarely steal due to greed or poverty. Most of these people dont commit other types of crimes.
It is a legal concept in the United States that refers to "conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty, or good morals. It is considered to have a bearing on the honesty of a witness and may be used for purposes to impeach your testimony. May be grounds to deny or revoke a professional license such as a teaching credential, license to practice law, or other licensed profession. It is of great importance for immigration purposes, as offenses which are defined as involving moral turpitude are considered bars to immigration into the United States.
Stealing is a crime with not just legal consequences, but family & school consequences. Stealing may result in civil and criminal court hearings resulting in fees and fines. Stealing may result in having a criminal record. Stealing may result on being placed on Probation or Deferred Prosecution. Stealing will negatively affect you: you may feel embarrassed, humiliated, and looked differently by your family, friends, school officials, and others in the community.
Is it worth it?
Stealing results in having a criminal record. It takes time and money to hire an attorney to deal with a case. It takes hiring an attorney ($$$$) to have your juvenile record Sealed. You cant Seal your record if you are arrested as an adult. Its expensive and time consuming. Its cheaper to buy the item rather than spending your time having to report, being drug tested, pay civil fees, pay court courts, and attorney fees to have record Sealed. You may not pass a background check.
