Objectives At the end of the 40-minute period, the pupils are expected to: name the accessory parts and reproductive parts of the flower; describe the work of the flowers and appreciate the importance of flowers in our surroundings by naming one use of it. Procedure A.Motivation What are your top 3 favorite fruits? Do you know where fruits come from? Have you observed what does a fruit look like when it was not yet developed into a fruit? B.Lesson Proper (Discussion) We all enjoy flowers for their beauty and fragrance, but were you aware that they also serve an important purpose? Without the seeds that are formed in flowers, more than half of all kinds of plants in the world would not be able to reproduce. The parts of the flower are grouped into two kinds: 1. Accessory Parts (for flowers beauty) a. Petal b. Sepal c. Bract (examples: the colorful petal-like bracts of Poinsettia and bougainvillea) 2. Reproductive Parts (for reproduction) a. Pistil (female part) b. stamen (male part) a.1 ovary b.1 anther a.2 style b.2 filament a.3 stigma Assessment With the use of a chart of the parts of the flower, the pupils will orally name the part of the flower pointed by the teacher. The pupils will identify if its an accessory or a reproductive part. Assignment Find the Korea translation and meaning of the following flower parts and terms: 1. Ovary 5. fertilization 2. Style 6. Pollination 3. Stigma 4. Stamen Bring coloring materials.

Subject Matter Topic: Flower Parts and Function Reference/s: Observing Gods World (A Beka) (page 23-24)

Objectives At the end of the 40-minute period, the students are expected to: draw and label the parts of a flower; write the functions of each flower part; and value flower parts function by citing their importance.

Procedure A.Motivation Review : Show a bougainvillea flower. Let the pupils name the parts. B. Lesson Proper: Translation: Ask the pupils the Korean translation of the flower parts (given as homework). Each flower part has their own important role for the flower. Using their book let the pupils draw and label the parts of the flower and then write down the function or the work of each flower part. Function Parts of the Flower Pistil (female part) 1. Ovary 2. Ovule 3. stigma Stamen (male part)

Assessment Orally ask the students with the functions of each flower part. Let them present their drawing too. Assignment Find the following terms: Nectar, pollen, pollen tube Bring coloring materials

Objectives At the end of the 40-minute period, the students are expected to: examine flower parts by dissecting a real flower; draw the pats of the flowers before and after opening; and appreciate the function of pollen grains in plant reproduction. Procedure A. Motivation Show the flower samples. Let the students guess the name of the flowers given with clues. B. Lesson Proper By dissecting a flower, it will be seen how a colorful blossom and a hungry insect help a plant reproduce. Materials: pin or paper clip, a flower, a magnifying glass, white piece of paper Procedure: 1. Draw the flower and color it in box 1. Label the petals and sepals. How many petals and sepals are their? Label the pistil and stamen too. 2. Place the flower on a piece of white paper, poke a pin on the base of the flower. Slide the pin all the way up to the pistil. 3. Can you see the beadlike parts at the base of the pistil? These are the ovules. Study this with a magnifying glass. Draw this in box 2. 4. With the help of a magnifying glass, observe the powder-like pollens sticking on the stamen and stigma. Draw this in box 3.

Objectives At the end of the 40-minute period, the pupils are expected to: Explain how fruits develop; Examine the fruit samples by comparing their structure; and Appreciate the importance of fruits in our lives. Procedure Motivation Let the pupils share to the class their favorite fruit. Lesson Proper Discussion 1. After the fertilization has taken place in the flower, what will happen to its petals? The flower fades and drops its petals. 2. What will happen to the ovary? The ovary which lies hidden begins to experience an interesting transformation. Little by little, the plant gathers a supply of food around the seeds, and the ovary swells larger and larger. The ovary becomes a fruit. 3. Are all fruits sweet and fleshy? Fruits can be not sweet and not fleshy. Some are dry like nuts and beans. 4. In everyday, we usually use the term fruit to refer only to those fruits that have a sweet taste. But in science, fruit is anything that forms from the ovary of a flower. Guide the pupils in examining the fruit samples. Compare it with their ovary structure on page 27. Assessment 1. What is the most important function of fruits for the plants? It helps scatter the seeds. 2. How about for humans? Food and medicine.
