Fundacion Nuevo Norte

Skill Set
Our International Development in Practice class emphasizes three areas oI development:
monitoring & evaluation, negotiation, implementation. We will be learning about these three
during the semester and hope to implement them into our project with Fundacion Nuevo Norte.
Our joint interests include how knowledge oI the most successIul practices in an area oI
development are scaled up and shared and how deal with the challenges oI rural Bolivia. With
our combined experiences in South America, education, and rural development, we hope to work
with Fundacion Nuevo Norte to create a meaningIul project Ior the expansion oI their work with
the people oI Bolivia.

I am a junior at the University oI Notre Dame majoring in Environmental
Science with a minor in International Development Studies. Originally Irom
the United States, I spent this past summer as an intern with two organizations
in Peru, Fundacion Runa and the Asociacion para la Conservacion de la Cuenca
Amazonica, learning about Iarming and land use as well as to help develop
community outreach eIIorts. I am proIicient in Spanish but am always looking
to improve. I am very interested in strategies to improve rural livelihoods while
managing ecosystems Ior the Iuture, especially in the context oI climate
change. This includes identiIying which Iamilies are most successIul in their
economic pursuits and then scaling that tactic up by educating Iarmers,
something that FNN is actively involved in. As part oI my minor studies, I
intend to write a thesis next semester using my research and experiences with
FNN. I hope that, through this project, we can generate some concrete, usable
inIormation Ior FNN to move Iorward in their Valorizacion de la OIerta Rural
project.

conducted research on the country`s current economic situation and on various
industries that were eligible Ior loans. Last semester I was involved in a project
with the Inter-American Bank on a communication strategy Ior their new

Fundacion Nuevo Norte educates Bolivian Iarmers on the best practices in
agriculture. My goals with this project are to expand my knowledge on the
current agricultural practices in Bolivia and to use my background in
Economics to contribute to the Valorizacion de la OIerta Rural project.
