Qualities in First Commandment

Love
-Jesus says that loyalty to him is a higher obligation than loyalty to your parents..Matt 10:34-37
-Jesus should be more important to us than our own lives…Matt 16:24-27….Phil 3:7-8
-Story of the Rich Young Ruler….Matthew 19
Separation
The first commandment implies a teaching of separation, of exclusion, of denial…It tells man to
say no….but what are we suppose to say no to?
False Gods-Narrow teaching from above
God-Substitutes
Our own power………………...Hab 1:11
Money………………………….Matt 6:24
Possessions…………………….Luke 12:16-21
Politics………………………….Dan 2:21
Pleasure and Entertainment……..2 Tim 3:4
Food …………………………Phil 3:19
What the First Commandment Deals With In Modern Day
The Occult
One must know something about the claims of the wicked, even in order to reject those
claims and to expose them to the Christian public for what they are…..2 Cor 2:11
Secret Societies
False Religion in Church
In my view, the breakdown of the one, true church of the apostles into a plethora of
denominations testifies to the vast extent of sin in the church. For when people leave one
denomination to start another, sin is always involved, either in those who leave or in those
who force them to leave or more likely on both sides.
