Lake County FlArchives Military Records.....1st Florida Infantry Regiment, U.S.V., Company B 1898-1899 Spanishwar - Rosters Company B, 1st Florida Infantry Regiment, United States Volunteers, 1898-1899 Company B, 1st Florida Infantry Regiment, United States Volunteers, 1898-1899 COMPANY B 1ST FLORIDA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT This Company left Leesburg, Florida, on May 14th, 1898, by order of Adjutant General Houston, of the State of Florida, for Tampa, to be mustered into United States service. They arrived at Tampa on the same date and camped at Fort Brooke; mustered into United States service on May 20th, 1898. On May 27th they broke camp and marched a distance of two miles to DeSoto Park and pitched camp; left DeSoto Park for Fernandina, Florida, by rail, on July 21st, 1898; arrived in Fernandina on July 22nd; marched one mile and pitched camp; left Fernandina, Florida on August 22nd, 1898, for Huntsville, Alabama; camped that night in the streets of Fernandina; left on August 23rd for Huntsville, arrived there on August 25th. Marched one and half miles and pitched a temporary camp in shelter tents; on August 26th marched one mile to the permanent camp. This Company transferred to the 3rd Battalion to be retained in the service on September 29th, 1898; mustered out of service on January 27th, 1899. Stone, John F.: Mustered into service on April 23rd, 1898; died on August 28th, 1898, at Fernandina, Florida. After some research it is thought that John F. Stone died from Yellow Fever.
