38. Why was Nehemiah so much concerned about the activities that desecrated the Sabbath? Because it was one of the sins that their fathers did, and which brought the wrath of God on them, and he did not want them to offend God once again. 39. What measures did Nehemiah put in place to put an end to the activities that desecrated the Sabbath? He ordered that the gates of Jerusalem on the evening before the Sabbath until after the Sabbath so that traders could not come in from outside. He stationed guards at the gates to prevent loads from being brought in on the Sabbath. He commanded the Levites to purify themselves and go and guard the gates in order to keep the Sabbath day holy.
