CCB1013 Organic Chemistry

Program Outcomes
Graduates of Chemical Engineering (Org. Chem.) will demonstrate the following:
Apply knowledge of science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex chemical engineering problems. Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex chemical engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of natural sciences and engineering sciences.

CCB1013 Organic Chemistry

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
Draw mechanism for fundamental reactions Identify chemical reactivity from knowledge of acid/base and nucleophile/electrophile properties Describe the special stability of aromatic compounds Describe the electronic structure, bonding and shape of the various functional groups Interpret the important relationship between structure and reactivity of organic molecules Understand general concepts and application of spectral methods for analysis of organic substances

Be punctual for ALL lectures, tutorials and lab sessions. Students can be barred from final exam if attendance is less than 90%. Replacement for quizzes and test will not be entertained without solid justification. Lecture notes and tutorials http://elearning.utp.edu.my are available at

Tutorials and labs will commence on the 3rd week of the semester. Please register for both tutorial and lab with the Organic Chemistry technician at Block 4 (04-02-22) during the first week of the semester (22 & 23rd May 2013).

CCB1013 Organic Chemistry

Lab manual and safety glasses can be purchased at Organic Chemistry Laboratory, Building 4 (04-2-22) from lab technician. Students must wear lab coats, fully covered shoes and safety glasses. Female students must wear long pants during ALL lab sessions. All questions/answer sheets are to be submitted ONE (1) day after each experiment. Plagiarism in any form is forbidden. If lab is cancelled due to public holiday, it will be replaced at a suitable time. In case of accidents in lab, report to demonstrator and lecturer immediately.
