Quick Tutorial
This tutorial descri"es ho you ould typically create a simple layout template. ?ou ill create a letter that sho s the outstandin! "alance for a customer. This letter contains a ta"le of all unpaid or partially paid invoices.

Open Word 'ile

Often a template starts from an example document in the form of a re!ular Microsoft Word document. For this tutorial !o to (tart ) Pro*rams ) Oracle BIP Desktop ) (amples ) +T' Templates, open the Balance ,etter folder and load the file Balance ,etter (tart.rt-. This file represents a Word document that has not "een mar*ed up for use ith Oracle B$ %u"lisher.

,oad (ample ./, Data

From the Oracle BI Publisher 0 Data menu select ,oad ./, Data to load a sample 'M( document that contains the data fields that are returned "y the report data model. (oadin! the sample 'M( document ena"les the template "uilder to present the data fields to you hile desi!nin! the report. For this tutorial !o to the samples1+T' templates1Balance ,etter folder under your B$ %u"lisher installation directory and load the file Balance.2ml.

Insert 'orm 'ields

To select sin!le data fields, such as the customer name and address at the header of the letter, position the cursor in the Word document here you ant to insert the 1ddress. From the Oracle BI Publisher 0 Insert menu select 'ield3 to open the dialo! indo sho n "elo .

9elect the field 4ustomer 5ame and clic* Insert to insert a form field for the customer name into the document. ?ou may also insert the remainin! address fields 4such as 6ddress ,ine1 to 6, 4it7, (tate and 8ip8. ?ou can also @ust dra! the Customer 2ame field from the dialo! and drop it into the Word document. ?ou can also select the fields, 6s o- Date, Tr2 4urrenc7 4ode and the 4 In9 Open Balance and insert them into the appropriate spaces in the document. 2ote# 1s a "e!inner, you should use Insert 'ields only for data fields that are unique 4not repeatin!8 in your document. Refer to the A$nsert Ta"leB section for additional information on ho to insert repetitive fields

Pre9iew Template
1fter addin! fields to the document, you may ant to test your template. Oracle B$ %u"lisher Template Builder allo s you to previe your template ith your sample 'M( data. ?ou can previe the output in 1do"e 1cro"at Reader 4%;F8, Microsoft Word file 4RTF8, Microsoft )'C)( 4)'C)(8 or a "ro ser 4CTM(8. From the Oracle BI Publisher 0 Pre9iew menu select :T/, to previe your template in a "ro ser. The Template Builder creates t o *inds of form fields# Form fields representin! data elements Form fields ith processin! instructions for repeatin! ta"le ro s or document sections

Form fields representin! data elements are replaced ith the data hen the template is processed. The F and ) form fields indicate a repeatin! section. The section of the document encapsulated "y these t o form fields is repeated, if the associated data element FD$2&O$C) is found repetitively in the data. %lease refer to the Oracle Fusion Middleware Report Designers Guide for Business Intelligence Publisher for additional information on form fields. ?ou can no format these elements in Microsoft Word and add additional text. ?ou can also move fields around as lon! as you *eep them in the surroundin! F and ) processin! instruction. $f you remove one of these processin! instructions your template may not or* anymore ith B$ %u"lisher. ?ou no can previe the template a!ain to revie your current template 4see a"ove8. ?ou pro"a"ly ould li*e to chan!e the ali!nment of the ta"le columns or chan!e the data type and format for the amounts. We recommend not to use currency si!ns such as H in the format strin!, since it may lead to difficulties in supportin! multiple lan!ua!es ith a sin!le template. Formattin! options defined in this dialo! "ox are understood "y Oracle B$ %u"lisher and used to format your fields. ?ou can modify the template to !et an idea hich Word functions are supported "y B$ %u"lisher.
