Its high season for celebrities hitting the red carpets set to get their hands on the hardware that accompanies the approval of their peers. But while artists in other mediums may not see such appreciation broadcast across the globe, the receipt of an award for ones artistic expression is no less exceptional. And as award-winning artist Alexis Marie Chute can attest, the opportunity to share ones art with the broadest possible audience is precisely what makes the work that much more rewarding. Its been a long journey for Chute, from the beginning of her solo project, The Quiet Rebuild , to its execution, and to the recognition from peers and critics she is currently receiving. First exhibited during her time as Artist-in-Residence at Edmontons Harcourt House Gallery, her series of photographs focused on reallife models, each of whom were undergoing their own personal rebuild in the wake of a traumatic event. The image, Healing #5 struck a chord with people, recently garnering it first place in The Ultimate Composition competition, juried by Method Art Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. The striking image features a woman who suffered a post-partum heart attack and struggled to regain not only her health, but her happiness. Its honestly a bit humbling, says Chute, who began the project in 2012. This was such an intensely personal project for everyone involved, that participating in the process was the reward in itself. But these honours have been an incredible icing on the cake. But what has been most gratifying for Chute is the potential for her work to inspire others in the midst of their own personal battles. Being a part of the Method Art competition brought the work to a whole new audience. Since Chutes first place win, Method Art Gallery have represented her work in Scottsdale, Arizona. Chutes entire series of photos have also earned her a spot amongst the Top 10 finalists in Exposures VISTEK Emerging Photographer Showcase, the voting for which will continue until February 27th.
