Date & Time

This section selects the source for date and time information for the unit.
Enable NTP Server Enable the NVRs internal NTP server. This allows other IndigoVision units or PCs to synchronize their clocks with the NVR. If you select this option, the NVR automatically takes its time from the embedded hardware clock.

Time Source: NTP Server Select this option and enter the address of an external NTP server. The NTP server must be on a network accessible by the unit. Hardware Clock Select this option if you prefer to use the real time clock embedded in the NVR.

Notice

When you enter a date and time on this page and click Submit , the current time of the real-time clock is set.

Time Zone Select the appropriate time zone.

Disk
Reaping by:

Space Recordings are only deleted when the NVR disk is becoming full. Time and Space Recordings are deleted either when the NVR disk is becoming full, or when recordings reach a specified age (max age).

Caution

Do not select the Time and Space option on an NVR which you use to play back archived recordings. Max Age This specifies the length of time that recordings are stored on the NVR before they are automatically deleted. Thinning This removes the intermediate P-frames, leaving only independent Iframes. This leads to a reduction in storage requirements at the expense of full motion video. Video Thinning is performed on footage only when it becomes older than the specified age. For effective use of Video Thinning, it is important to configure the maximum Iframe interval on the transmitter such that the frame rate of thinned footage is acceptable. Video Thinning is most effective on footage with significant amounts of motion. Automatic Unprotect of Video This automatically unprotects footage after a certain time period. Footage will be unprotected only when it becomes older than the specified age.

Caution

Enabling Automatic Unprotect in conjunction with Reaping can result in the loss of video data that has been protected to provide evidence relating to an incident.

Storage Space This figure is read-only and indicates the total storage space on the disk. Used Space Shows the percentage of disk space currently used. Disk Status (not RA variants) This indicates the status of the disk. The status can be as follows: Disk OK The disk is functioning normally. Disk Not Found The disk has been removed or is not responding. For FD variants, please contact Partner Support. Disk Error There is a fault on the disk and it must be replaced. See Chapter 3 of the Hardware Guide for details of how to do this, or for FD variants, please contact Partner Support.

RAID Status (RA variants) This indicates the status of each disk in the RAID array. The status can be as follows: Disk OK The disk is functioning normally. Disk Not Found The disk has been removed and must be replaced. See Chapter 3 of the Hardware Guide for details of how to do this. Disk Error There is a fault on the disk and it must be replaced. See Chapter 3 of the Hardware Guide for details of how to do this. No RAID When two or more disks have a fault, all disks display No RAID. You must replace the faulty disk(s) and rebuild the RAID array. See Chapter 3 of the Hardware Guide for details of how to do this. Disk Rebuilding Indicates that the RAID array is being rebuilt.

Do not remove any disks while the RAID array is being rebuilt.
Caution

Disk Maintenance (not RA variants) Reformats the disks. RAID Maintenance (RA variants) Erases and reformats the entire RAID array. This should be used only when No RAID appears in the Disk Status field. For more information about reformatting the RAID array, see the Hardware Guide.

All data on the disks is erased when you format the RAID array.
Caution

Protection: Protect All Click Protect All to protect all recordings on the disks.

Caution

Recordings which are marked as protected are never automatically deleted (unless automatic unprotect of video is configured). It is good practice to press this button before removing disks which are to be archived, to prevent accidental deletion at a later date. Unprotect All Click Unprotect All to unprotect all recordings on the disk. This allows them to be deleted according to the reaping regime.

If you protect/unprotect all recordings, you lose the ability to identify recordings that were deliberately protected/unprotected by the user in Control Center.

NVR RECORDING MAINTENANCE

Backing up Recordings
To back up recordings, use FTP to copy the recordings from the /storage/VideoLibrary directory. To access the FTP site, log in as root, using your web access password. (If you have not set a password to allow web access, use admin as the password.)

Monitoring Recording Jobs

To monitor currently recording jobs, you use IndigoVisions Control Center application. Control Center allows you to monitor all jobs on your NVR. It allows you to set up recording jobs on NVRs on a visible network. You can also use it to view any existing jobs and their current state (enabled, disabled, recording, etc). If a transmitter shows Trying to record in Control Centers recording schedule this indicates a problem with the transmitter. You should check the network connections, the device is switched on, and has a valid Video License Key displayed on the Firmware Upgrade page. You should then try to access the devices Web Configuration pages.

NVR Alerts
You should pay particular attention to the following alerts in Control Center: Disk Full alerts Disk full alerts indicate that the NVR disks are full, and that the NVR cannot delete any recordings, for example, because they are protected. Use Control Center to check for recordings marked as Protected and unprotect these recordings. Maximum Recordings alerts These indicate that the maximum number of recordings has been exceeded. This may be because there are too many short recordings. For information on how to remove these, see "Disk" on page 9.

Recording Failure Alerts

Recording failure alerts indicate that one or more transmitters are not recording correctly.

Configuration Guide - v9

19

3 NVR Recording Maintenance

Network Video Recorder

Check the network connectivity between the transmitter and the NVR. Ensure that the maximum number of licensed streams has not been exceeded.

Redundant PSU/Network Link Failure Alerts

If you have checked Redundant PSU failure or Redundant Network link failure , an alert is generated when these occur. See "Status Monitoring" on page 12 for details of how to set up these alerts.

Recovery
The standalone NVR 200 can record a maximum of 20 streams, with a maximum recording bandwidth of 32Mbps. The standalone NVR-AS 3000 can record a maximum of 64 streams, with a maximum recording bandwidth of 64Mbps for RAID0 and RAID1, 40Mbps for RAID5, and 40Mbps for Compact variants. If recording jobs exceed these limits, the red CPU overload LED illuminates on the front panel of the unit. In these circumstances, you may find that the unit becomes unresponsive when you try to access it to remove job entries. If this occurs, disconnect the unit from the network, and connect it only to a local PC for administration. Once you have deleted the jobs using this PC, reconnect the unit to the network.
