Appeal to support flood-hit victims in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh, SERUDS

According to news from media 27 people have been killed in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh
due to floods resulting from heavy rains since Wednesday (1st Oct). Andhra Pradesh is
facing the worst ever floods in its 60 years, as 60 per cent of Kurnool district was submerged
on Friday leaving thousands homeless and stranded without food and water. Nearly two lakh
people have been evacuated to relief camps in the worst-affected district Kurnool. All water
tanks, reservoir had been breached and floods covered the entire district of Kurnool due to
guishing water, about 1,70,000 houses collapsed, live stock, food grains and household
items washed away in the guishing water. This flash news has been reviewed and
broadcasted to the entire world. About 65,000 families in our target area badly affected, and
they left only with clothes on them. The present living conditions of the flood victims
constitute a real tragedy to our unimaginable dimension and effective.

The gates of several projects on the Krishna River–including Jurala, Srisailam,


Nagarjuna Sagar and Prakasham – have been opened to release the flood water. While the
inflow into Srisailam reservoir has touched an all-time high of 21 lakh cusecs, 10 lakh cusecs
of water has been discharged from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar reservoirs.

"This is a never-before-seen situation. Never in the past has the Krishna basin
witnessed such floods and inflow of water into the dams. I am urging the people in the low-
lying areas not to take the threat lightly. Move out to the safer places and cooperate with the
officials," said the State Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasad Rao in Hyderabad

Army boats and Air Force helicopters Friday began to rescue hundreds of people
marooned at several places. Thousands have been rendered homeless. Over 1,70,000
houses have been damaged. Chief Minister K. Rosaiah said the flood situation was grim and
army personnel have been deployed for rescue operations. Six helicopters have been
pressed into service to rescue people. While four helicopters are being used to airlift the
flood-hit in Kurnool district, two choppers were deployed in Mahabubnagar district

Rescue and Relief by the SERUDS volunteers:


SERUDS volunteers have involved rescuing the flood victims from the houses and arranging
immediate shelters in local Govt. Schools, Clothes and Blankets in affected Kurnool town of
AP and now food is being provided to the victims in five areas Budhavarapeta, Madigageri,
Malageri, Thota and Padipoyina Khamanu. In only Kurnool Town more than 30 slum areas,
outskirts and other areas have been fully submerged with the floods. We would like to take
up the rehabilitation activities for the victims of flood from the following areas as follows:

famous temple of Raghavendra Swamy completely immersed in water.

Appeal:

A time for action is here again. Let us donate generously for the relief and
rehabilitation of the affected people many of whom have lost everything overnight.

In this critical juncture, the flood victims required an immediate relief in order to survive
themselves. Therefore let every one of us extend possible help and support on humanitarian
grounds to the victims for their good edification and to recuperate their glorious past. A few
