Abstract The technological advancement in data storage and high speed internet connection has resulted in huge data production and transmission in every industry. The overwhelming data being stored in business, education, hospital, and other industries along with satellite data, surveillance data and data stored in World Wide Web is a storehouse of information. It is essential, to develop powerful means for analysis and perhaps interpretation of such data and for the extraction of interesting knowledge that could help in decision-making. Data mining has become an active research field in computer science having great industrial impact. Data Mining refers to the nontrivial extraction of implicit, previously unknown and potentially useful information from data in databases. While data mining and knowledge discovery in Data bases (or KDD) are frequently treated as synonyms, data mining is actually part of the knowledge discovery process. However a data mining query running through terabytes of data spread across multiple databases, sitting on different physical networks results in inefficient query taking a long time. A data warehouse as a storehouse is a repository of data collected from multiple data sources (often heterogeneous) and is intended to be used as a whole under the same unified schema. So the crux of the relationship between data mining and data warehousing is that data, properly warehoused, is easier to mine. With a well designed data warehouse having closely connected relevant data in different databases, the data miner runs much more meaningful and efficient queries to improve the business. To ensure that the advances of data mining research and technology will effectively benefit the progress of science and engineering, it is important to examine the challenges on data mining posed in data-intensive science and engineering and explore how to further develop the technology to facilitate new discoveries and advances in science and engineer. Understanding the advantages of using different data mining tools and techniques - and knowing what data mining does helps a researcher move faster towards his/her goal. Since its conception in the late 1980s, data mining has achieved tremendous success. Many new problems have emerged and have been solved by data mining researchers. However there is still a lack of exchange of important topics in the community as a whole. The Faculty Development Programs deliberates upon different facets of data warehousing and data mining like applications, operations, techniques and algorithms. The FDP will also focus on the development of new computational techniques and enhance awareness of the current research in the field of data

Objectives The objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to focus on understanding modern data mining and data warehousing concepts and Research Directions and to create awareness among the participants about recent tools and techniques in these areas. Provide opportunities to further widen their knowledge and to pursue research studies. Give an introduction to new methods and innovations in higher education and enlighten them so that the participants can in turn develop their own innovative methods of instruction.
