Skills needed: able to lead a crew, recognize and record archaeological resources, perform surveys to GS-0102-07 standard protocols, read topographic and site maps, use GPS and transfer data to GIS, and proficient on completely timely paperwork. Biology (Fisheries)/Aquatics/Hydrology Assist with the amphibian crew. Will be conducting visual encounter surveys (VES) with in the burn area. Must be comfortable in and around water. Must be able to hike in rugged terrain for long distances. Must have a valid state drivers license. Basic orienteering skills (map reading, compass use, cross-country hiking) are desirable. Some camping may be required to complete the work. Must be able to work in difficult environments, some of which include: hot (>100*F), cold (near freezing), wet, windy, brushy, and insect-rich. Tour of duty will generally be 4 days on, 3 days off, with 10 hour work days. Work location/conditions may necessitate alteration of this schedule, therefore flexibility is required. The majority of time will be spent conducting physical stream habitat surveys, though some amphibian and/or fish surveys may also be required. Most work will be accomplished via day trips; a few weeks of camping may be required, depending on travel time to work sites. Skills needed: experience in using surveying equipment including rotating laser level, ability to use ArcMap, including map making; ability to use GPS and import data into ArcMap, need to have good organizational skills and attention to detail, must have valid state driver license, ability to get along with others including positive communication and cooperative problem solving, and past crew leader or supervisor experience is desirable. This is a field going position, so must be able to work in difficult environments, some of which include: hot (>100*F), cold (near freezing), wet, windy, brushy, and insect-rich. Duties & Skills Needed Work will require moderate to strenuous physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking in steep, uneven, or rocky surfaces. Field work occurs in varied and sometimes extreme temperature conditions. Work is exposed to poison oak and biting insects. The work schedule can be very demanding, with early morning and late evening hours required, and a minimum of 40 hours/week, 5 days/week (work schedule may exceed 40 hours/ week). Will provide oversight and support for data entry into NRIS. Skills needed: Experience required in running and supervising field crew. Must have experience in setting up surveys (i.e., creating call routes) and surveying for target species (spotted owl, goshawk, and great gray owl) using approved Region 5 protocols. Must be proficient in GIS and NRIS. Must be well organized and able to multi-task. Forestry Working in uneven terrain, hazardous walking conditions.
