Setting: A street, Venice, Itally Characters: Herald Othello has arrived safely from the Turkish fleet. He is throwing a celebration because he is safe and of his marriage with Desdemona.

A2S3
Setting: A hall in the castle Characters: Othello, Desdemona, Cassio, Iago, Montano, Gentlemen, Roderigo Iago gets Cassio drunk. Iago tells Montano that Cassio has a drinking problem, and Montano wants to inform Othello about it. Iago provokes Cassio to fight with Roderigo and Montano. While in a brawl, Cassio stabs Montano. Othello stops the fight and takes away Cassios position of lieutenant. Cassio is upset about his ruined reputation, but Iago tells him that reputation does not matter. Iago tells Cassio to ask Desdemona for help to get his position back by setting up a meeting through Emilia. Iago plans to use Cassios closeness with Desdemona to strike jealousy in Othello.

Setting: Characters: Cassio, Clown, Musician, Iago, Cassio, Emilia Cassio arrives with musicians and a clown for Othello and Desdemona. Cassio gives the clown money to spy on Desdemona and Cassio. Cassio asks Emilia to set up a meeting with Desdemona. Emilia informs Cassio that Desdemona is already trying to persuade Othello to give him back his position as lieutenant.

Setting: A room in the castle Characters: Othello, Iago, Gentlemen, Othello and Iago walk together, and Othello gives him letters to deliver.

A3S3
Setting: A living room, Cassios room Characters: Desdemona, Emilia, Cassio, Othello, Iago, Othello Desdemona speaks to Cassio and promises to do all she can to get his position back. When Othello arrives, Cassio is quick to leave. Iago tells Othello that Cassios disappearance is suspicious. Othello becomes suspicious of an affair, so he tells Emilia to spy on them. He believes Desdemona doesnt love him anymore because he is old, black, and lacks manners. Othello has a headache, and Desdemona offers to bind it with a handkerchief, but he declines. The handkerchief is dropped without either of them knowing. The handkerchief was Othellos first gift to Desdemona. Emilia picks up the handkerchief and gives it to Iago. Othello goes into Cassios room angry, demanding proof of the affair. Iago tells Othello about Cassios dreams and how he called out Desdemonas name in his sleep. Iago shows Desdemonas handkerchief to Othello. Othello swears revenge on Desdemona and Cassio.
