15. a. (i) describe the working of step-down chopper, with the help of a suitable circuit diagram and wave form .state the relation between input and output voltage .how is the speed of the dc motor controlled using a step down chopper. (8) (ii) A 100v shunt motor has armature resistance and field resistance of 0.4ohms and 100ohms respectively. At a particular constant torque load ,it takes a current of 25A at the speed of 1200rpm .a chopper is used to control the speed of the motor .find Ton to reduce the speed to 800 rpm at a chopper frequency of 500Hz . (8) (Or) b. (i) state and explain the various schemes adopted for speed control of induction motor using voltage source inverter (8) (ii) A 250V,10KW,1200prm Dc shunt motor has a full load efficiency of 80 %.its field and armature resistance are 110 ohms and .25ohms respectively. Calculate the value of the resistance to be inserted in series with the armature and the power lost in the armature circuit to reduce the speed to 80% when the load torque is constant regardless of the speed.
