This document describes controls on the Keyboard and Function panel of the JustVision Ultrasound Console. Diagrams with number codes are included on pages 1-2. For nomenclature of this document, K will refer to Keyboard controls, and F will refer to Function Panel controls.

4 Steps to Begin Scanning

1. Turn on power by moving the GREEN power switch to the up position. (2 switches on the JV400). 2. Press New Patient Control <1K>. 3. Press Program Preset <2K>. Choose exam type by pressing the corresponding number on the keyboard. 4. The cursor will default to the Patient ID Field. Using the alphanumeric characters on the keyboard, enter the patients name. Begin scanning

Image Optimization (During Exam)

TGC <6K> Time Gain Compensation

Time Gain Compensation (TGC) allows for amplification of the returning sound waves. The further a sound wave travels, the more its returning echo diminishes in strength. For this reason, the sound waves returning from greater depths must be boosted. TGC allows for more finite and accurate adjustments of the returning echos from specific depths by allowing you to boost or reduce them independently. As an analogy, TGC functions much like an equalizer on a stereo system. Rather than adjusting the volume of the entire sound spectrum (Gain), you can adjust individual bands. To adjust TGC: Slide the pods to the right to increase gain, to the left to decrease gain. Keep pods adjusted for uniform tissue echogenicity. A lower setting in the near field is optimal for resolution and near-field distinction.

IP <16F> The IP knob is multi-functional. It controls the Operating Frequency when pushed.

The JustVision Ultrasound can operate at 3 distinct center frequencies. This center frequency lies in the middle of the Broad Band Imaging spectrum. By use of Dynamic Echo Tracking, the JustVision transmits sound waves in the frequency ranges above and below the center frequency. As a reminder, the relationship between frequency, resolution and depth is as follows: As Frequency increasesresolution increases, penetrable depth decreases. As Frequency decreasesresolution decreases, penetrable depth increases. Pushing the IP Knob will change the Center Frequency. The screen indicator for the Center operating frequency is in the upper right hand corner of the monitor. The unit must be in real time to change the Center Frequency (NOT in freeze mode discussed later). Center Frequency C60 5.0 MHz C60 6.0 MHz C60 7.0 MHz .Broadband Spectrum... (High end at 7.0 MHz, low end at 3.5 MHz) (High end at 8.0 MHz, low end at 4.0 MHz) (High end at 9.0 MHz, low end at 5.0 MHz)

IP <16F>

The IP knob is multi-functional. It controls Image Processing when turned.

Image processing controls the contrast and grayscale parameters of the screen image. IP is measured on a scale from 1 to 8. The unit must be in real time to change the IP (NOT in freeze mode discussed later). The screen indicator for IP value is in the lower right hand corner of the monitor. It is the first of two numbers (the second number refers to the Gain setting, discussed later): 5/80 Settings 1-4 have more contrast and edge enhancement (1 or 2 is ideal for cardiac imaging). Settings 5-8 produce smoother images with more grayscale (5 or 6 is ideal for abdominal).

Depth <13F> The Depth setting adjusts the field of view that is displayed on the screen. This setting does NOT adjust the depth that the sound waves actually travel. The depth of actual sound wave travel can only be controlled by changing the center frequency (discussed above). The screen indicator for depth is in the lower right corner of monitor (in centimeters).

To adjust the field of view depth: Dial left to increase depth (increase field of view). Dial right to decrease depth (decrease field of view).

Gain <17F> The Gain control adjusts the amplification of all RETURNING echos across the entire imaging spectrum. This setting does not increase the strength or amount of sound waves being transmitted those values are inherent to the transducer being used and cannot be adjusted. Gain is measured on a scale of 60-100. The Gain screen indicator is in the lower right corner of the monitor (displayed with the IP setting discussed above). 5 / 80 (Default setting = 80) To adjust the Gain: Turn the Gain knob clockwise to increase amplification. Turn the Gain knob counter-clockwise to decrease amplification.

FREEZE & PLAYBACK OF IMAGES Freeze <18F> Pressing the Freeze button will freeze the current image on the monitor.

CINE-loop IP <16F> The IP knob is multi-functional. It controls CINE-Loop when FREEZE mode is engaged. CINE-Loop is the capture of a clip of images. The JustVision series is constantly maintaining a 1-2 second memory of images (while in B-Mode). Pressing the Freeze button, as above, will display the most recent image (frame). The IP button controls CINE-Loop once Freeze has been engaged. (Remember, this same button controls depth and frequency when Freeze is NOT engaged). To control CINE-Loop Playback: Press once to replay the memory loop at full speed. Press again to replay the loop at half speed, and a third time to replay at quarter speed. Turn the IP knob to replay the loop frame by frame. A CINE-loop may contain anywhere

from 32-96 separate frames. The Frame indicator is located in the upper right corner of the monitor screen and displays the frame number. Also, RT = first frame, LT = last frame. Pressing Freeze <18> will return the system to live scanning, and the IP knob will resume prior controls.

Annotations ABC <8K> Annotations can be added to any image currently displayed on the screen (live or frozen). Pressing the ABC button on the Keyboard will display the annotation cursor. The trackball is used to move the cursor to the location at which you want to make the annotation. After pressing the ABC button, annotations can be added in the following ways: Dial the multi-functional dial <7F> to scroll through pre-programmed labels. Enter labels by typing with the keyboard. Press the MENU <1F> key. Scroll with trackball to highlight the desired label, or press NEXT <9F> to view additional label selections. Press SET <8F> to select label. To add multiple annotations to the same image, press the ABC button again and repeat the steps above. To delete screen annotations, press the Delete key on the keyboard.

Print <14F> Pressing the Print button will print the current screen image (provided the printer is installed). FREEZE mode must be engaged for this feature to work. Return to live scanning by pressing Freeze <18F>.
