CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A Background of the Problem

In the purpose to increase the education system to be better , Indonesia has developed a new curriculum which is called curriculum 2013. This curriculum has made to replace the previous curriculum that is called KT !. This chan"e would be a result o# an e$perimental e##ort as the Indonesian "overnment is attemptin" to tac%le the problem o# declinin" education &uality in the country and preparin" students to %eep pace with "lobal challen"es by restructurin" the curriculum 2013. 'ne may see this 2013 curriculum a #ailure rather than a brilliant solution as the "overnment removes science #rom the list o# sub(ects and instead endorses more hours #or reli"ion class with hopes that students will have better moral behavior and social understandin" and thus, will avoid violence. To reach the "oal o# implementation the )urriculum 2013, the teacher has the important role to apply the curriculum 2013 in the classroom . That is why the writer has done an observation to observe the implementation o# the new curriculum 2013 , especially teacher en"a"ement.

* L m tat on of the Problem Accordin" to the above bac%round o# the problem, in this report oobservation the writer "ives the description o# the way o# the implementation o# )urriculum 2013 "oes in the classroom, especially in the teacher+s en"a"ement.

) Pur!o"e of the Ob"er#at on The purpose o# this observation is to %now about the implementation o# curriculum 2013.

T me and Place The observation has been done onTime - .ednesday, /ovember 20th 2013 !lace - 0 1 I!A 2I 3 4A /e"eri 10 !adan"

CHAPTER II DI$CU$$ION

Before the Ob"er#at on A#ter the writer "et an order to do an observation in hi"h school with her "roup, the

writer and "roup try to #ind schools that will be the place to do observation. There are some (unior hi"h schools and some senior hi"h schools which has curriculum 2013 has been as%ed by the writer and the writer+s "roup, at the last the writer and "roup decide to do observation at 4A / 10 !adan". *e#ore doin" an observation in that school, the writer sends an

observation permission letter to 4A/ 10 !adan". The purpose o# sendin" the letter is to help the writer and the "roup to be allowed doin" the observation in 4A / 10 !adan". A#ter the letter is accepted by the teacher o# that school , the teacher a"ree to let the writer do the observation in that school. Then , the writer and the "roup ma%e an appoinment with the teacher who is an 5n"lish teacher to do the observation in the teacher+s class on #irst "rade. The teacher as% to the writer about the "oal o# the observation and then "ive an e$planation about the class situation and condition that the teacher hand on. *e#ore start the observation, one o# the writer+s "roup member introduces the member o# the "roup to the student in #ront o# the class, and announce that the "roup will do observation in that class, and the students appreciate it possitively. There are 26 students at that class. They all participate actively in that learnin" process which has descriptive te$t material at that time learnin" process , they #ollow the teacher+s instruction well.

* Dur ng the Ob"er#at on 7rom the duty o# the writer and "roup, there are #ive thin"s that have to be observed by the "roup. They are material, teacher en"a"ement, media, learnin" activities and lesson plan. ,ue to o# the writer only #ocuses on the teacher en"ament , so that this observation report only desribe about teacher en"ament. At the time o# doin" the observation, the material that has learned by the student is ,escriptive te$t, it #ocuses on readin" s%ill. At the be"innin", the teacher "ives two te$ts about 8 9atim !ar%: which is a tourism place 5ast 9ava and shows the te$t by usin" in#ocus. In the teacher en"a"ement in curriculum 2013, it is &uite di##erent with the previous curriculum. In the new curriculum with the scienti#ic approach, the teacher is #unction as a #acilitator in the classroom, so that the student have to be actively in learnin" process in the classroom to "et the lesson. ;ere are the activities that have been done by the teacher and the students at that time1 In the be"innin" o# the learnin" and teachin" process, teacher collected the last wee% assi"nment or tas%. 2 Teacher as%ed student about the last material in the preview wee% , the purpose is to notice student about what they have learned at the last meetin". 3 The , teacher as%ed student about the picture that is presentin" in #ront o# the class. <ater, as% student+s opinion. = Teacher "ave the students the print out material and stand in #ront o# the class , "uide the student to answer the &uestion , but did not directly "ive the answer. > .hile students answered the &uestion in the answer sheet, teacher wal%ed around them to chec% or see how the students tryin" to answer the &uestion.

P cture no% '

P cture no% (

I# there is a student does not put the e$ercise boo% on the table while doin" the tas%, teacher warned them to write the answer in the student+s e$ercise boo%.

A#ter student discuss the answer, teacher pointed the students one by one to write the answer on the white board.

A#ter students that were choosen to write the answer on the white board had done, then teacher discuss the answer with the class. *ut teacher is too #ast when e$plained the correct answer in #ront o# the class. In the ne$t section, teacher presented another picture , later "uide student about the

print out material. Then the teacher do the same thin" as be#ore, she as%ed the student to answer the &uestion with their #riends. In the classroom, teacher %eep to communicate with the "roups. Teacher %eep in #ocus on the "roup discussion o# each "roup. A#ter that, teacher as%ed the each "roups to corretct the error or mista%es that occured when each "roup had written the answer on the white board. At the last o# learnin" and teachin" process o# 5n"lish at that day, teacher "ave an e$ercise that must be done by the student individually. ) Po"t cla"" nter# e)

A#ter the learnin" process at that day is over , the writer and teacher disscused about the class. /e$t , the writer as%ed to the teacher about the implementation o# curriculum 2013 in teachin" learnin" process in the classroom especially about teacher en"a"ement, teacher said that there is a little di##erence between the previous curriculum with the new curriculum. The di##erences is about the student+s duty, teacher said that the student have to be active more in curriculum 2013. 'n the other hand teacher is #unction to be a #acilitator to support the learnin" process.

The teacher said that it is still &uiet di##icult to apply the curriculum 2013, because o# not all o# the student want to participate in the disscusion o# classroom. *ut teacher anticipate it by as%in" the passive students to write the answer or their opinion on the white board. o that every student in the classroom will participate in learnin" process.

CHAPTER III CONCLU$ION$ Accordin" to the observation, the teacher en"a"ement in the classroom is "ood. Teacher inlvolve in every section well, so that almost all o# the student participate actively while the learnin" process happened. They #ollow the lesson well, they (ust need the teacher to "ive a little core in#ormation o# materials , then they do it with their "roup seriouslyto "et the correct answer and discuss it with the other "roups. The teacher only "uide them to be not overlap when tal%in" or discussin" with the other "roups ;owever, there still some o# students are passive. They pre#er to let the other students %eep tal%in" or ar"ue about the answer. It seems that they are not interested to show their opinion. o that, teacher needs to come to their "roups one by one and encoura"e them. It has the bad e##ects, it is due to o# when the teacher come to as% the passive student+s opinion, the other students will ma%e a noise to tal% about the other topic #rom the lesson. It cause the class become not as &uiet as that is e$pected in teachin" and learnin" process. Accordin" to the writer observation, it is still &uiet di##icult to implement the )urriculum 2013 in the classroom, due to o# the teacher and student still need to adapt with the )urriculum 2013 "radually.
