Topic: Ways of preventing the negative consequences of climate change in my home region
Proj ect name: The study of controlling the temperature and agglomeration of the cloud using specific
substances in order to alleviate climate change
Research question: How could we control the temperature and agglomeration of the clouds to prevent the
increase of green house gas and to consequently renovate the atmosphere in the earth to be in the moderate
condition?

Introduction
Climate change is a long-term change in the statistical distribution of weather pattern with respect to an
average over the periods of time. It may be limited and different in each region and even occur across all parts
of the earth. Nevertheless, climate change causes many problems to all living creatures and environments. It`s
the global challenge held promise by the energy efficiency and new technologies to deal with it. Green house
gas in an atmosphere that absorbs and emits radiation within the thermal infrared range is one of the
determinants of climate change. In Troposphere, when green house gas becomes thicker, infrared rays from the
sun which penetrates through into the ground can reflect back less than usual, so the temperature of the earth
raises and Stratosphere becomes cooler. Consequently, the air current in Stratosphere changes and the cool
cloud Ilow to the earth`s pole. When the temperature oI the cloud keeps falling until -80 degree Celsius, the
concentration of Chlorine and Bromine is higher and then damages ozone dramatically. Moreover, in my home
region, Brown Clouds is one of the serious phenomena when the 3 km-thick pollution clouds containing
lampblack carbon, Sulfate from coal combustion and exhaust gas overspreads most area in Asia and increase
atmosphere`s temperature. Statistically, Brown Clouds causes a drastic flood disaster in the Southern Asia and
more than 25 million people become homeless.
The well-known way to fight against that problem is to reduce or inactivate green house gas.
Controlling the temperature and agglomeration of the atmosphere can prevent an increase of green house gas
concentration. The appropriate temperature can reduce the rate of Chlorine and Bromine, meanwhile the enough
agglomeration oI cloud allows Iewer harmIul radiations to penetrate through the earth`s atmosphere. Analyzing
the previous studies of properties of substances is used to select appropriate chemical substance to heat or cool
and agglomerate the cloud.

Proj ect goals
1. To study the efficiency of selected chemical substances in case of controlling the temperature of the
clouds in atmosphere
2. To study the efficiency of selected chemical substances in case of controlling the agglomeration of the
clouds in atmosphere
3. To find the practical way to deal with Brown Clouds, one of the climate change causes in Asia.

Methodology & Result
Having read up on each research paper concerned with this issue, I found that one factor to reduce the
green house gasses is an agglomeration of the clouds. However, I came up with an idea of controlling the
temperature of the clouds which I think it can significantly reduce the amount of Green house gasses as well.
Therefore, in this section, I will describe the methods and results of controlling temperature and agglomeration
separately.
In case of temperature, based on the Cloud Seeding techniques, selected chemicals are spread over the
atmosphere by an airplane and then react with the moisture in the air. Similarly, controlling the temperature of
the clouds requires equilibrium combination of Exothermic and Endothermic chemicals to reach moderate
temperature. At the prior of experiment, this research can be held in a laboratory in order to test each
combination with moisture in test tube. Practically, we can select some top efficient combinations to test in the
real condition by spraying them to the cloud via airplane and then measure the quantity of ultraviolet in that area
by UV light radiometer (irradiance or exposure). For the result, Exothermic chemicals we can use are Calcium
carbide, Calcium Chloride, Calcium Oxide, and Endothermic chemicals are Urea, Ammonium nitrate, Dry ice.
In case of agglomeration, we want to make the clouds denser enough to prevent UV but not become a
rain. Stimulating the growth of clouds requires an optimal quantity of chemical substances to spray directly to
the clouds and then measure UV as well. For the result, we can use Desiccant chemical such as Sodium chloride
in the rate that depended on air condition.

Research evaluation
For this research project plan, there is a high feasibility to study, for there are varieties of chemical and
aero techniques. Besides, the hot issue related to the clouds is noticeably discussed many times in the conference
of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change (UNFCCC), therefore we
may get a funds to carry out the project cooperated with a large number of environment scientists. However, to
achieve this research require more in-depth knowledge in Chemistry, Meteorology and also Aerodynamics.
I have to study more about all of them before working on this research.
