1. Overview
This document is designed to identify the browser configuration options necessary for
www.pbisassessment.org to function properly.

2. Determine your browser version


2.1. Internet Explorer
1. Open a browser window and click Help from the menu bar.
2. Select About Internet Explorer from the drop-down list.

2.2. Firefox
1. Open a browser window and click Help from the menu bar.
2. Select About Firefox from the drop-down list.

2.3. Chrome
1. Open a browser window and click the wrench icon in the upper-right section of the menu bar.
2. From the drop down menu select About Google Chrome

2.4. Safari
1. Open a browser window and click the small gear in the upper-right section of the menu bar.
2. Select About Safari from the drop-down list.

3. Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9
The standard configurations listed are accessible from the slider bar found at Tools -> Internet Options > Security, with the Internet zone selected.

3.1. Medium Security


The default settings for Medium Security should allow for all of PBIS Assessment features to function
properly.

3.2. Medium-high Security


The only issue with the default Medium-high security settings occurs after a survey has been submitted.
After clicking the X to close the completed survey window, a message will appear requesting
authorization to resubmit form data with the options of Retry and Cancel. Retry will allow navigation
back to the page from which the survey was requested. Cancel will navigate to a Webpage has expired
page.
There are two ways to avoid the error message: Add pbisassessment.org to your trusted sites, or enable
the submittal of non-encrypted form data (the latter of which is NOT RECOMMENDED).
Complete the following steps to add the PBIS Assessment domain to Internet Explorers trusted sites.

Open a browser window


Navigate to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security
Select the Trusted sites Zone by click on it
Click the Sites button
Delete the contents of the field to the left of the Add button and enter:
https://www.pbisassessment.org
Be sure to use https and not http or you will receive an error message.

7. Click Close

Just be sure that the security level for Trusted Sites is lower than Medium-high (as found in Tools ->
Internet Options -> Security -> select the Trusted Sites icon.

3.3. High Security


High security settings require several options to be enabled in order for PBIS Assessment features to
work properly. Also, the background will turn black during load screens with High Security settings but it
does not interfere with the functionality of the site.
3.3.1. Enable Active Scripting
An immediate indicator that Active Scripting is disabled will become apparent when trying to log into
www.pbisassessment.org. After clicking Login there will be two login types to choose from: School and
Coordinator. If Active Scripting is Disabled, clicking on the Coordinator tab (or text) will do nothing.
3.3.2. Enable Run activeX controls and plugins
This option will allow the surveys to run correctly.
3.3.3. Enable Allow META REFRESH
This option will allow the survey loading pages to complete and redirect normally.

3.4. Advanced Options


3.4.1. Native XMLHTTP support must be enabled
Many aspects of PBIS Assessment require native XMLHTTP support to be enabled. This includes the
school/district selection on the Manage Schools table, all expandable lists on the Dashboard, etc.
To enable support, follow these steps:
1) Navigate to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced
2) Scroll down to Security
3) Click the checkbox next to Enable native XMLHTTP support

Tools -> Options -> Content -> Enable JavaScript
Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Accept cookies from sites

Note: Even after making these security changes there will still be a prompt after submitting a survey
asking for authorization to resubmit form data. Two options will be displayed, Resend and Cancel.
Resend will navigate back to the previous page, Cancel appears to do the same.

4.1. Enable Javascript


An immediate indicator that JavaScript is disabled will become apparent when trying to log into
www.pbisassessment.org. After clicking Login there will be two login types to choose from: School and
Coordinator. If JavaScript is Disabled, clicking on the Coordinator tab (or text) will do nothing.
To enable JavaScript, navigate to Tools -> Options -> Content -> Check the Enable JavaScript checkbox.

4.2. Enable Cookies


Cookies are required for nearly all PBIS Assessment functionality. An indicator that cookies are not
accepted from pbisassessment.org occurs when attempting to login. If an error message is received, in
the form of a page titled Server Error in / Application.
To enable cookies, navigate to Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Check the Accept cookies from sites
checkbox.

To enable cookies, navigate to Settings -> Preferences -> Privacy -> Click the radio button next to Block
Cookies: Never.

7. Known Issues
7.1. Safari 5, Chrome 15/16
7.1.1. Error screen after submitting a SET or BoQ survey
After clicking the X to close the window after completing a SET or BoQ survey, or closing the survey
window at any time, will cause an error message to appear titled Server Error in '/' Application.
Hitting the Back button on the browser will navigate back to the previous screen and a prompt will
appear asking if form data should be resubmitted. Click Refresh to accept.
7.1.2. Error screen if the SET or BoQ survey window is closed
If the SET or BoQ survey windows are closed, an error message will appear titled Server Error in '/'
Application.
