COVER STORY: Our Lady of Ftima
The statue of Our Lady Ftima was made in Miami, FL in 1963 and was
shipped to Russells Point during the Summer of 1964, where it was erected
at its present site. The statue is 19 6 tall and has an overall height of 43.
The late George Quatman was responsible for the construction of the
shrine. Active in many civic affairs, he founded the San Juan Ballroom and
Resort, part of the old amusement park era, and made many improvements
over the years. The resort was unique in that all the proceeds from the
enterprise went to charity. The cost for the construction of the shrine came
from San Juan park.
The statue is of the virgin Mary as she appeared as described by three
children who saw and heard her message in three separate appearances
near Ftima, Portugal in 1917. Her message as spoken to the children
was, Unless we respect and honor Gods holy name and obey His
commandments, the world will not attain salvation. This is the story, in
brief, and is described on the plaque at the foot of Our Lady Ftima.

FEBRUARY 14, 2014
Legislative Luncheon
The Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Sponsors
the Annual Legislative Luncheon on the second Friday
of February each year. At this luncheon numerous
government, community and business leaders are in
attendance.
Speakers usually include Logan County Commissioners,
Auditor, Engineer and the State Park Manager.
Representatives from the State of Ohio include a
Senator, a US Congressmen, State Representative for
the District, along with ODOT District 7 Representative.

Boat Show Weekend
The Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is a proud
Co-Sponsor of the Indian Lake Boat Show. The Annual
Boat Show, organized by the Indian Lake Marine Dealers
Association, attracts thousands of people each year.
The show is held on the rst weekend in March. The
U.S. Coast Guard and the Ohio department of Natural
Resources Division of Watercraft will be on hand to
answer your boating questions.
Spend A Day Marina, Indian Lake Marine, and Buds
Marine all take part in the Indian Lake Boat Show.

MARCH 15 & 16, 2014
Maple Syrup Festival
The Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the Indian
Lake State Park and ILDC hosts the annual Maple Syrup
Festival each year on the third weekend in March at the
State Park Campground. The festival includes a wagon
ride through the park to the tapping area for a tutorial on
how maple syrup is extracted from the tree. Then, its on
to the Sugar Shack for a demonstration of the process by
which sap is transformed into true maple syrup.
While at the festival, the chamber wants you to enjoy a
pancake and sausage breakfast. For over two decades,
chamber members and volunteers have served pancake
and sausage breakfast in the commissary at the State
Park Campground. You can also purchase pure maple
syrup from the ILDC which will have a booth in the

APRIL 12, 2014
Cabin Fever Steak Fry & Membership Drive
This event is held at the Indian Lake Community
Church Fellowship Hall on the second Saturday of April.
There is an auction, 50/50 drawing, a steak dinner, and

MAY 3, 2014
3rd Annual Indian Lake Fireworks Golf Outing
Tee time is 1 p.m.; a 4 member team scramble with
many prizes and door prizes. The event is held at

Showcase of Indian Lake
This event showcases businesses around the lake from
food, parks, RVs to boats. We will have bouncy houses

The Indian Lake Fireworks Fund Ride is a 15, 30 & 60
mile bicycle ride around the Indian Lake Area. The ride will
begin and end at Old Field Beach, with several

Boating Boating
The State of Ohio requires that operators of motor
boats of ten or more horsepower have a Certicate
of Boaters Education. The Coast Guard Auxiliary will
conduct the eight hour, one day, BOATING SAFETY
CLASS. This course meets The State of Ohio educational
requirements for boaters born on or after January 1, 1982
and is NASBLA approved.
Classes will meet at various locations at Indian Lake.
Dates for Indian Lake are March 9, May 11, June 28 and
August 17, 2014. All classes on these dates will start at 8
AM and conclude at about 4:30 p.m.. If there is sufcient
demand, an evening class could be scheduled during
the summer. A series of two or more meetings would
be necessary to cover the required material. The cost is
$40.00 for the rst student and $20.00 for the second
student. Fee also includes lunch.
Course lessons are designed for boaters of all ages and
experience. In the past we have had students from 12
to 70 years of age. Topics include Ohio Boating Laws,
safety equipment, boat handling, and rules of the water.
Instructors will relate experiences, and show actual
safety equipment to further explain course topics. Upon
successful completion of the course students will receive
a CERTIFICATE of BOATING EDUCATION as they leave
the classroom.
Pre-registration for the course is required. At that
time, details will be given and course materials will be
discussed. Registered students are assured that they
will be notied of any change in the meeting time, date
or location. Reservations may be made by calling Anita
Daniel (937) 726-6572, at Indian Lake.
Do you have all the state and federally required safety
equipment on your boat? Free vessel safety checks are
available most weekends at the US Coast Guard Auxiliary
Station at Moundwood Ramp at Indian Lake. These can be
done by a qualied examiner at the dock or while your boat
is on the trailer.

Auxiliary and their mission here on Indian Lake, you may

STATE PARK OVERNIGHT DOCK PROGRAM
Description: The Transient (overnight) Dock Program
allows park visitors, without seasonal docks, to have
extended dock privileges up to 14 days in a 30 day period.
Locations:
Lakeview Harbor docks Russells Point Harbor docks
Blackhawk seawall Moundwood docks
Cranetown Island docks Paradise Island docks
Number of Slips/Docks utilized per night: 10 total
Fees: $15 per night
Making a reservation: Permits are issued by reservation
only and can be made by calling the park ofce during
business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-12:00 pm and
1:00 pm-5:00 pm. We do not take answering machine
reservations. Reservations can be made via credit
card. Permits are limited to 10 per day only and are not
assigned to a specic area.
An extended stay docking permit is only valid for
temporary tie-ups or docks listed at the following
locations.

20-Russells Point Harbor 6-Moundwood docks
10-Blackhawk seawall 4-Cranetown Island docks
This permit does guarantee you the privilege of utilizing
the above dock areas beyond the 4 hour limit. This permit
does not guarantee you a specic dock or tie-up
in these areas. If all dock spaces are taken, you must
wait until a space opens up to dock your watercraft.
You cannot hold or otherwise keep other visitors from
using the available dock space. Your permit will expire
at 4 pm. After that time your watercraft cannot be
tied in any public dock space until the following day in
which the hour limit will take effect. This permit is for
docking purposes only. Sleeping on watercraft is strictly
prohibited.

As an integral part of Indian Lake, Lakeview, which is located off
the western shore, has many things to offer its residences and
visitors. We have a variety of shopping stores, dining locations
and professional services including nance, banking, legal and

Over the last ten years, Lakeview has seen many improvements
in its infrastructure. Its downtown has received a makeover with
new streetscape, upgrades to its electrical distribution system
and most recently, a new water facility that produces ltered
and softened water for drinking and household use.

The village of Russells Point, located on the south side of
Indian Lake welcomes you to the Indian Lake Region. We enjoy
meeting visitors and seasonal residents from near and far.
In the very near future we will see a new addition to the many
activities and sites in the area. A project that has been in the
making for several years is coming to realization. As a result
of the diligent efforts of many, including Basset Associates,
Landscape Architects and Planners of Lima, OH and signicant
donations from The Indian Lake Watershed Project, Duff Quarry
and Pheasants Forever the village has been awarded a grant
from the Ohio Public Works Commission to develop a 52.3 acre
parcel of land donated to the village by the Rudolph Family into
the Indian Lake/Great Miami River Open Space. Located along
the Great Miami River on the south east side of the village, we
will see the emergence of a natural wetland and prairie site.
With a walking path of nearly 1.5 miles it will offer visitors the
opportunity to observe native wildlife and plants. We are very
proud to have this opportunity to permanently preserve a slice
of nature and share it well into the future.

Pay-As-You-Throw Trash Disposal

(Center for Hard to Recycle Materials)
Free recycling and pay-as-you-throw trash disposal are available at all 16 Recycling Centers in Logan
County. Five of the Recycling Centers are conveniently located around Indian Lake. Visit one and pick
up brochures from the brochure holder on the shed to learn about these services. Recycling Centers
are always open, well lit at night with video surveillance we are ready to recycle when you are!
CHARM, the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials, is a special service of the Logan County Solid Waste
District located at 1100 S. Detroit St., in Bellefontaine, Ohio. CHARM services are provided in two ways.
ELECTRONICS: Small electronic devices such as computers, printers, cell phones, microwave ovens (if
you can plug it in, bring it in) television sets and fuorescent light tubes can be recycled every business
day when the Solid Waste District Offce is open at 1100 South Detroit St. in Bellefontaine. Electronics
are recycled free except for televisions which cost $10 and fuorescent tubes, which cost 20 cents each.
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTES: used motor oil, scrap tires, oil based paint, garden pesticides
and fertilizer can be brought to the CHARM center during schedule collection times. See brochure at any
Recycling Center for details, dates and times. Small charges apply to most hazardous wastes.
