11:32

Vtor Figueirdo Leite Hello, I would like to know if is possible to apply for PSE if my score is more than it needed on the edict, but I don't have enough score to the university that I want, e.g. University of Manchester. I have taken the TOEFL scores and my results is 85, but some universities require 87. Could I apply to them? Thanks.

11:33

Sarah Moody Hi Vitor, thank you for your question, the PSE courses are only available for students who have not met the minimum English language requirements and would not be able to come to the UK otherwise. Some universities provide students with a short in-house English course when they arrive in the UK

11:33

Kandice Barros Sarah, There is a specific number of swb students each university will be accepting per course? Or it depends on the demand for each university? Tks

11:34

Renata Nogueira Hi Sarah! I have a doubt about the PSE. In the science Without Borders site (link: http://sciencewithoutborders.international.ac.uk/student-applications/undergraduateapplications.aspx ) is written: PSE students: If you will require a PSE course then please obtain an official translation of your academic transcript, this does not necessarily need to be 'juramentada' but must be undertaken be an official translator or translation company. This is because you will need to submit an official translation when making a visa extension application here in the UK. What do you mean with official translator? What kind of qualifications that person need to have? And for who will do PSE, they will need to take two visas? How does this work? At some point it will be mandatory to have a certified translation (juramentada)?

11:34

Sarah Moody Hi Kandice, this depends on the individual university and the amount of places they have on offer. SwB UK does not collect this information from universities though.

11:35

Renan Brando First of all thank you very much for this opportunity, my first question is about the academic transcript, I already got it translated by an English teacher, but my university won't sign it or give its official stamp. The one that I got is valid just for the translator signature?

11:35

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, I would like to know how does the CLEARING process work... are the students alocated by their course preference and area in the UK similar to the ones they chose? Or is it completely random? It's a mystery to us how does the clearing happen, so if you could make it clear that'd be great, thanks

11:36

Sarah Moody Hi Renata, if you will require a PSE course before commencing your academic studies then please obtain a professional translation of your academic transcript, as students will require this for the purpose of extending their visas if the PSE course is successfully completed. Students will obtain a visa in Brazil that covers the PSE course and then the universities here will help students obtain the visa extension in the UK

11:36

Sarah Moody Hi Renan, If your university will not verify your transcript for you then I am afraid that we need you to please ask a professional translator to translate the transcript for you

11:36

Vtor Figueirdo Leite So, If I got 85 and the minimum is 87. Should I apply or is rare to be aceppted?

11:37

Kandice Barros Hmm... How many days will we have to do our application in swb-UK portal?

11:37

Gregryo Pacheco Hello, I would like to know if the GPA score is relevant for the application. If I dont have a high GPA, can I receive a offer easily? During the application period, will I be able to see the GPA requirements of each one of the universities? Can I receive no offers if I apply to universities which are not likely to accept my GPA score?

11:38

Sarah Moody Hi Djonatan, SwB UK will look at the universities on offer and courses available and try to allocate you a place at an alternative university that is well known for your area of studies

11:39

Renata Nogueira Thank you Sarah. But I don`t understand what do you mean with ''professioanl translation''. It needs to be ''juramentada''? If not, what kind of qualifications the translator needs to have?

11:39

Renata Nogueira Although the period/semester is already over, some universities won't be able to publish the transcript with the last modules. So, would be OK to send the same old one? For example: I sent to CNPq my transcript including all the periods until the first half of 2013. By the time I apply on UUK, I will have attended also the second half of 2013, but it will not appear on my transcript. (Jessica Louise)

11:39

Sarah Moody Vitor, there is no problem with you applying to the university if your scores are slightly below however we cannot guarantee that they would definitely be able to offer you a place as this is up to the universities. They will also be considering your academic transcript and personal statement

11:39

Vtor Figueirdo Leite Ok, thanks!

11:39

Sarah Moody Renata, any professional translator will do (someone who is certified to be a translator)

11:40

Renata Nogueira Ok, thank you!

11:40

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, it is common knowledge that some universities only consider students that put them as 1st option... do you know which ones are those? It's hard for us, because we can be 'burning' a chance if we put a university as 2nd choice and they won't even consider us.

11:40

Aline Leo About PSE. Must I submit the same transcript that i sent at the time of my application in SwBUk portal when making the visa extension in UK?

11:41

Sarah Moody Renata/Jessica, if you have completed more of your studies than appears on your transcript please could you ask your university whether they could put the additional courses down as pending grade on your transcript - or include a document that states you are studying these in the same PDF as the transcript

11:41

Renata Nogueira Do I need to attach to my transcript an 'evaluation system document' explaning how the grades work on my university in Brazil? (Larissa de Oliveira)

About PSE and VISA: what happen if a student doesn't get the VISA in time to the pre-sessional course beginning? Example: the university doesn't provide your CAS in time to the day that you scheduled your VISA? And if I couldn't come to UK before the PSE beginning? Like, if I just get my VISA and my flight after the first day? Am I going to lose my course, and have to begin just in the next year? (Line Nascimento)

11:41

Fernanda De Gasperin Sarah, I'll need pse and a I have a doubt: can I sent now a translation certified by my university and just for visa sed an official translation?

11:41

Sarah Moody Aline, yes if you are successfully placed at a university in the UK please bring your officially translated transcript with you Djonatan, universities definitely consider students applications even if they were not their first choice - I would not worry about this.

11:43

Kandice Barros But they do know the place we put them?

11:43

Sarah Moody Renata/Larissa if you could attach this document it would be helpful but not necessary as the universities here are equipped to look at foreign transcripts

11:43

Fernanda Solon Capobianco

Hi, Sarah. Firstly, thank you for your time. I would like to know if the official academic transcript is enough to apply at February 10th in the Student Application Portal. My academic transcript contains some personal data, the subjects that I've already done and its grades. I would like to know if it's good to attach to this document another one that contains the subjects that I'm going to study in February 3rd in my currently university.

11:43

Renan Brando The students application opens in February, am I correct? And after that what is the next step ?

11:44

Sarah Moody Renata/Line, universities are aware of the importance of issuing CAS's quickly in time for students to apply for visas to come to the UK. We also help and contact UKBA where necessary or ask universities if there is any flexibility in the arrival dates. We have not had any students who have been unable to come because of a visa problem.

11:44

Renata Nogueira Thank you!

11:45

Sarah Moody Fernanda, you can submit a certified translation for now - however you will need an official translation for purposes of renewing your visa. Kandice, the universities only know if they were first choice - nothing further

11:46

Gregryo Pacheco

When it will be possible to see the full oficial list of participating universities and their courses?

11:46

Renata Nogueira For this step, we need "The copy of the photo page of your valid passport". This copy must be authenticated (autenticada em cartrio)? Or we just need to scan the original document?

11:46

Sarah Moody Fernanda, the student application portal will be opening in mid-late February. It would be helpful if you could attach a document in the same PDF as your transcript with the courses you are enrolled on but have not completed

11:46

Renata Nogueira Well, I have double citizenship (brazilian and italian), so technically I wouldn't need a visa. My question is: is it ok for me to go to uk with my italian passport to take part on a brazilian study program? Is it cool for me to do it or it will just bug me later? (Cristina Marcolla Carnelos) My original transcript (in Portuguese) contains a lot of information that seems useless for the application, such as the place where I go to vote, and the place and date when I took my ID card; should these info be translated too? Also, if the translated version is printed on official University headed paper and signed by a member of my University staff, does it still need to be signed by the translator (with date and contact details)? Thank you! (Lorena Azeredo Germano) (Mariana Bomfim) I'm changing my course (but in the same university). As my firts appliance here in brazil (in SwB website) was eletric engineering, and now is civil. I want to know if is there any issue that complicates my situation. Is there any need for me to be still doing eletric engineering or is it ok to keep on civil?

11:46

Gabriella Caravana Can I send my oldest academic transcripts or should I send the newest one that I have? The most actual?

11:47

Raslan Oliveira Ribeiro Hi, how many time will we have to do aplication in uuk after the partial result?

11:47

Renata Nogueira How much time we have to do the portfolio? We have to do it before the end of UK subscription? Or we will have a few days after the end of the applications?

11:48

Sarah Moody Renan, we are discussing with CNPq the process of opening applications but I expect we will contact students by email inviting them to apply. You will need to have the translated copy of your academic transcript, a PDF copy of your passport photo page, and a PDF copy of your TOEFL iBT or IELTS results If you have taken your TOEFL iBT test on or after the 6th of April 2013 then there is no problem submitting a screenshot of your online results and using this to apply for a visa if placed at a UK University. If you have taken your English language test before the 6th of April 2013 then you will need to submit a copy of your original TOEFL iBT certificate and will need this document to apply for a visa if placed at a UK University. If you have not received your certificate yet then I would advise that you please contact ETS and ask them to send it to you urgently.

11:48

Fernanda De Gasperin And for who will go with PSE, how we'll renew ou visa? What documents will be necessary?

11:49

Sarah Moody

Gregoryo, we are still collecting a list of universities and courses that will be on offer and hope to be able to publish a prospective list towards the end of this week or next week on our website. This will not be complete. The complete list will be available in mid-February

11:49

Kandice Barros Sarah, I graduated in science and technology bachelor's (STB) last week and now I am studying Mechanical Engineering as a second graduation, which have 60% subjects in common. However, my academic transcript for Mechanical Engineering contains some personal data, the subjects that I've already done in STB BUT NOT its grades. So, should I send in 10th of February both of my academic transcript? Will I have where to attach they both or it will be better if I merge the pdf's?

11:49

Sarah Moody Renata, you just need to submit a copy of the original to us on our online application portal

11:52

Sarah Moody Renta/Cristina, If you have an Italian passport there is no need for you to submit a copy of your Brazilian passport on the application portal. Please indicate that you hold an EU passport when you are asked this. You can travel using your Italian passport and will not require a visa. The transcript should be fully translated into English please. Lorena, please do also ask the translator to sign and include their contact details on the translation. Mariana, if you are changing your course from Electrical to Civil Engineering please ask the university to write you a note stating this so that the universities are aware then they are considering your application

11:52

Sarah Moody Gabriella, please submit a copy of your most recent transcript Raslan, students will have approximately 10 days to submit their application. We recommend submitting applications sooner, rather than later, as we return applications to students for amendments if there are any problems.

11:53

Gabriella Caravana My passport is not available ! I have to take another one! I'm afraid that I will not receive it at the right time to send to swb portal! So what can I do in this case?

11:54

Svio Caiubi Hello, I would like to know when the students will be required to send their portfolios, is it after the student gets the term of acceptance? thank you

11:54

Sarah Moody Renata, if you need to submit a portfolio for the course you are applying for the universities will contact you to request this if it is necessary. I would recommend having a portfolio ready. Fernanda, you should have the same documents as when you apply for your visa in Brazil. We will provide students with more details about this if they are accepted at a UK University

11:55

Kandice Barros How many days after the portal closes can we expect to get an offer?

11:56

Sarah Moody Kandice, please include both transcripts in the same PDF

11:56

Kandice Barros Ok.. Thank you!

11:56

Sarah Moody Gabriella, please do not worry please attach a copy of your Brazilian ID for now and then if you are placed at a university in the UK please email them a copy of your new passport when you receive it.

11:56

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, about the offers... we can only get one, right? Even if more than one is interested in me... does that check? If so, in case my second choice gets to make an offer before my first choice... won't I be able to choose my first one?

11:57

Renata Nogueira (Beatriz Lima) Is it ok to rent an apartment after a few months living in the University accommodation? If it's that so, how should I proceed? (in terms of money, universty accommodation, etc)

11:57

Sarah Moody Savio, the portfolios will be requested when universities are analysing applications just after applications have closed for SwB UK Kandice, it will take about 3 weeks before we start sending offers to students

11:58

Gregryo Pacheco

3 weeks after the application Sarah?

11:58

Aline Leo Sarah, can I attach recommendation letter of a professor in my application?

11:58

Renata Nogueira The research after the course is mandatory right? All universities have to provide it?

11:59

Sarah Moody Djonatan, students only receive one offer and unfortunately we are not able to make any alternate offers if the offer made is not accepted. The offer will come from the highest university listed in your order of preference. For example if your second choice has made you an offer and the first one is still evaluating your application we would not send you an offer until your first one had decided if they could make you or not make you an offer.

11:59

Fernanda Solon Capobianco Thank you for your answer, Sarah. I would like to know if the most appropriate site to monitor the updates of universities that offer vacancies is the https://apply.sciencewithoutborders.international.ac.uk/ ? Is there any way to know if a university only accepts students with PSE? I do not need PSE and would not like to "burn" an option in my applycation. The best way is to contact directly with the university?

Student Application Portal apply.sciencewithoutborders.international.ac.uk TODO

11:59

Renata Nogueira How long is the application at UUK process? How long it lasts?

12:00

Sarah Moody Renata/Beatriz, students are required to stay in the accommodation provided by the university rather than privately rented accommodation. Staying in university accommodation is one of the best ways to meet people at the university

12:00

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, if I don't get an official translation (juramentada) to my transcript, any person with english knowledge can translate it? Or only certain people can do that?

12:00

Sarah Moody Yes, approximately 3 weeks Gregoryo as it takes universities a while to consider applications due to the number of staff they have to send it to some universities receive a high number of applications they have to consider!

12:01

Gregryo Pacheco Thank you Sarah

12:02

Sarah Moody Aline, we ask that students please do not attach recommendation letters to their applications and there is no place to upload this

12:02

Aline Leo OK, thank you

12:02

Kandice Barros The university use to contact us before give us an offer due to getting further information?

12:03

Sarah Moody Renata, yes students are required to complete a placement/internship for three months after finishing their academic studies around June (exact dates depend on the universities)

12:03

Aline Leo For the visa in Uk, the transcript translation needs to be "juramentada" or just an official translation will do?

12:04

Fernanda De Gasperin We need to show just the names of the subjects of their content too, to the university consider our knowledge?

12:04

Renata Nogueira So, the universities will have to provide it, right? (the research) When will we know which universities will offer PSE of 3-6months?

12:05

Sarah Moody Fernanda, the best website to use to check courses on offer is: http://sciencewithoutborders.international.ac.uk/student-applications/undergraduateapplications.aspx. Please do not contact UK Universities directly as they forward the enquiries to us, when students register to apply on our website (when applications open) they will only be able to see courses they can definitely apply to after being asked to enter their English language scores

Undergraduates - Science Without Borders sciencewithoutborders.international.ac.uk The next round of undergraduate applications will open early 2014, we cannot confirm exact dates yet, but please keep checking the website for more information.

12:05

Svio Caiubi Another doubt, the translations made by the Internacional Relations Department of each University will be considered as valid when it comes to the academic transcript? does it count as if the transcript is 'juramentado'?

12:06

Sarah Moody Kandice, if universities require portfolios they will contact students, if not they will not make contact until the offer has been accepted and sometimes not until all offers have been accepted

12:06

Renata Nogueira If we have any problems with accommodation, you can ask the university to change the hallroom? This has happened before? This change can happen?

12:06

Sarah Moody Aline, an official translation will do Fernanda, just the course name - there is no need to submit a description of the course Renata, yes the universities will help students arrange placements When you apply you will be told if you need a 3, 6 month or no PSE Savio, my colleague is currently discussing the translations with UKBA and we will get back to you regarding this

12:08

Gabriella Caravana So, the list of the universities on swb just will show us the universities that we can chance to be accepted right? Or the swb portal will show us all universities of the program?

12:09

Kandice Barros " (...) they will only be able to see courses they can definitely apply to after being asked to enter their English language scores". So, if I get 6.0 on IELTS and the university I'd like to apply requires 6.5 as overall I might not be able to see that course?

12:09

Sarah Moody

Renata, if students have any problems with the accommodation we will try to find a solution with the university

12:11

Renata Nogueira After applying in the UUK and send the portfolio, if requested, what we have to provide? What documents are required for VISA or for some later stage?

12:12

Sarah Moody Gabriella, the list will be of universities and courses on offer. We will specify whether they offer PSE or not when students begin their applications

12:13

Renata Nogueira Why are the courses on the student portal unavailable and when they will be available again? (Larissa(

12:13

Sarah Moody Kandice, the portal uses the English language requirements we set rather than the university so if the universities requirements are slightly higher then you will still be able to see them

12:13

Renata Nogueira (Mariana Bomfim) I want to know when i have to send my passaport if i use my nacional id for my aplication in this phase in february.

12:13

Sarah Moody Renata, you will need the same documents as you use for your application

12:13

Gabriella Caravana I will need pse so in my list will just have the universities that accept pse, is it right?

12:13

Fernanda Solon Capobianco Thank you, Sarah. The website that you've sent gives a provisional list of UK Universities planning to offer courses for a September 2014 start. If I click on any university, I don't know if my course will be available at this university through the Science Without Borders programme. Is there any way to know this information previously?

12:14

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, is there no way we can come back earlier? I mean our semester here in Brazil usually begins late July or early August, so if we come back in September we would be missing the whole semester, therefore, instead missing out one year, we would be missing out one and a half. Can we arrange to get the research earlier with our university in the UK to come back earlier?

12:14

Kandice Barros After being accept for an University and provide the visa, and if we not need to have PSE course, when is expect the university to welcome us? From August?

12:14

Sarah Moody Renata/Larissa, the application portal is not up to date as we are currently preparing it for when applications open

12:14

Renata Nogueira It's OK if I write my PS in American English?

12:14

Sarah Moody Mariana, if you use your ID then please send it to the universities directly if you are made an offer and accept it Gabriella yes when you begin your application you will be asked to enter your English scores and will only be shown the courses you are eligible to apply for

12:16

Fernanda De Gasperin Sarah, about the personal statement: you want to know our academic historic or our profile like a student?

12:16

Renata Nogueira When will start the course for those who are doing 3months PSE? June or July?

12:18

Sarah Moody

Fernanda, please wait until applications are open - at this point the list will be fully comprehensive. We do not think it will change much from the provisional list and that if it does change it will be additional courses on offer

12:18

Renata Nogueira What do they expect of my portfolio? I should focus on my extra artwork or on the projects and designs I've done in university?

12:18

Sarah Moody Djonatan, if you needed to return earlier you would need to obtain special permission from CNPq.

12:20

Renata Nogueira I can come to Brazil if you have a problem here? For example, a death of a family member? This has happened before? Is it possible?

12:20

Sarah Moody Kandice, if you do not require a PSE course you would come to the UK around September/October - this varies depending on the university

12:21

Renata Nogueira If we make trips to nearby countries, we need to notify it? You know what vaccinations are recommended for those who are going to the UK to study?

12:22

Sarah Moody Renata, there is no problem writing the personal statement in American English but please remember you are applying to UK Universities and if possible write it in British English. The universities are aware that applicants do not speak English as this is not their first language and consider this when they read it.

12:22

Fernanda De Gasperin Does my visa 'expire' in the moment that finishes the classes or can I stay in europe for some days? How works the thing that we need come back and stay here for the same time we were there?

12:23

Sarah Moody Fernanda, please find here some tips about personal statements which should help:

12:23

Sarah Moody

12:24

Sarah Moody Renata, students that require PSE will need to come to UK around July - UK Universities decide the exact length the PSE course lasts and when it starts

12:24

Luisa Alban when the personal statement need to be ready?

12:24

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, question from Maria Fernanda: "If I have the translators contact and signature, and this translator is also a member of my university staff, will I still need my university stamp? And the other way around, if I have the university stamp, will I need the translator's contact?"

12:25

Sarah Moody Renata, I would advise looking on the course site for the university you apply to for information on personal statements. If students need to return to Brazil if they have any urgent problems we advise contacting us as quickly as possible and we will do our best to help.

12:25

Renata Nogueira When we sent the PS to the UUK the paragraphs disappear, right?

12:25

Sarah Moody Renata, there is no need for any vaccinations to come to the UK

12:25

Fernanda Solon Capobianco

Thank you, Sarah. I don't know if you are the proper person to ask this question or if this is a "CNPQ stuff". I would like to know if, in my travel to UK, it is allowed to buy two tickets: one from Brazil to another country and then from this country to UK. This option can be cheaper. Or am I required to buy a ticket from Brazil streight to UK?

12:26

Sarah Moody Fernanda, students should not overstay your visa in the UK. UKBA sometimes gives a short time after the end of academic studies for students to stay in Europe. Please do read the conditions of your visa carefully if you are placed at a UK University.

12:27

Priscila Niso Hi Sarah! Is it true that UK universities can see if we choose them as our first option on the application?

12:27

Sarah Moody Luisa, you will need to submit your application (including your personal statement) before applications close. Djonatan/Maria Fernanda, if the transcript has been translated by a member of staff at the university please ask them to include the stamp of the university, if the university translates it please ask them to include details of the translator

12:28

Renata Nogueira "Renata, students that require PSE will need to come to UK around July - UK Universities decide the exact length the PSE course lasts and when it starts" So, it is possible that the 3months PSE be actually 2months, for example?

12:28

Sarah Moody Renata, yes the paragraph structure is lost when students apply. Please do not worry this is not a problem Fernanda, I believe the flight should be direct to the UK - please do check this with CNPq. Priscila, yes but only if they are your first choice, not if they are second or third Renata, yes, this depends entirely on the university and the time they think students need

12:29

Renata Nogueira If we make trips to nearby countries, we need to notify it?

12:30

Sarah Moody Renata, you should discuss this with the university

12:31

Renata Nogueira When will we know the exact date of the start of classes? Do you have an estimate of which month? (which month you will know the exact date)

12:31

Priscila Niso Thanks Sarah! Are the universities allowed to use the information (if we choose them as first or not ) as a criteria to select us?

12:32

Camila Almeida

We can do more than the 3 months of internship??

12:32

Sarah Moody Renata, students who are made and accept offers will be contact directly by the universities with the dates and further details about the course and accommodation. This varies greatly depending on universities.

12:32

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, when you say that "any certified translator will do", what do you mean? Because when I read something like "certified translator", I immediately imagine a 'juramentado' translator... what's the difference?

12:32

Sarah Moody Priscila, it is entirely up to the universities who they choose to make offers to. They will look at all the applications they receive. Camila, you would need to discuss this with the university - you would normally have exams before you begin your placement

12:34

Camila Almeida So I can contact the research groups in the university to discus the possibility of a longer internship?

12:36

Renata Nogueira

Sarah, I emailed for the University of Strathclyde asking about the pre-sessional course and my scores. My grades are compatible with a 3-month course. But, they answer me this: ''I would recommend that you look to apply for January 2015 with a 3 month Pre-sessional English programme starting in October 2014. The applications wont open until later in the year but I would advise that you contact SwB UK for further information as you may need to start applying for your funding from CNPq now. Please seehttp://sciencewithoutborders.international.ac.uk/student-applications.aspx for further information." ''Unfortunately the applications for pre-sessional English in advance of September 2014 have already closed. These opened in August last year and students have already been accepted. Unfortunately we cant do anything about this as the dates are set by the Brazilian funding agencies. The next possible intake would be January 2015 with 3 month pre-sessional English. The applications for this wont open until later this year you would be best to email SwB UK for further details on the application dates.'' But, for me, who will attend a 3-month course will start in June-July of 2013, is not it? I'm a little confused, can you explain this to me?

12:37

Sarah Moody Djonatan, the difference between juramentado and official translators is that juramentado are that 'juramentado' translators are recognised by the foreign ministry and are more expensive than normal professional translators Camila, please do not contact any research groups until you have definitely been made an offer by a UK University - you would then need to discuss this with the university tutor

12:38

Camila Almeida Ok, thanks Sarah!

12:38

Sarah Moody Renata, we ask that students please contact SwB UK if they have any questions as sometimes there is some confusion within universities - the call which is opening soon will also be for students that require 3 month PSE

12:40

Fernanda Oliveira My University gives my academic transcript in English. I'm going to UK with PSE so I need a official translate, or just the academic transcript available by my university is ok?

12:41

Sarah Moody Fernanda, we are discussing with UKBA and will get back to you with an answer when we have heard back from them

12:43

Renata Nogueira Thank you Sarah!

12:43

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, I'm not supposed to get any part-time job while I'm there, right?

12:44

Priscila Niso My university translated the academic transcript for me. Since I won't require PSE, all I need is the translator's contact information and the university stamp?

12:45

Sarah Moody Djonatan, no, students receive a stipend and should focus on academic studies whilst they are here and should not need a part-time job

priscila, yes this is correct

12:46

Renata Nogueira Sarah, and about the double diploma *(duplo diploma)? How can we get it?

12:47

Priscila Niso thank you Sarah

12:47

Sarah Moody Renata, double diplomas are only awarded in extremely rare instances, and normally only where pre-existing links exist between universities. You should please discuss any pre-existing links with your home university. No problem Priscila!

12:48

Renata Nogueira Sarah, when you said about the transllator ''Renata, any professional translator will do (someone who is certified to be a translator)''. A person who studied English in university, would be able?

12:49

Sarah Moody Renata, no it needs to be someone who is a translator and does this for their job There are lists of translators by state widely available on the internet. I will try to find you some that I have found and may be of use as a guide.

12:51

Mayra Calixto Sarah, I got 6.0 overall in the ielts exam and some of universities requires 6.5 overall for my course. Have I any chance to obtain an offer? or is it a big problem?

12:52

Marina Montanari Sarah, I've done a vocational technician course in my field of study integrated to the high school, in a well-known college (here in Brazil is called "curso tcnico profissionalizante"). How relevant is this in UK? Because I intend to talk about this experience on my PS.

12:53

Renata Nogueira Oh, thank you Sarah! So, It means that we will have to provide a "simple translation" (traduo simples). The brazilian translators are able to do ''juramentada'' and ''simples'', so, I think that the ''simples'' will be enough, all right?

12:54

Sarah Moody This is an American website but should be of help finding a translator: http://brazil.usembassy.gov/professional-services/list-of-translators.html

12:54

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, is there any way we can find information like... what universities received more applications (and therefore are harder to get offer from) in previous calls of SWB?

12:54

Sarah Moody Mayra, this will depend entirely on the universities I am afraid! Marina, if the vocational course was relevant to your current area of studies there is no problem including something about this in your personal statement

12:55

Renata Nogueira In my records did not appear the CR, only the scores by subject. I will be prejudiced?

12:55

Mayra Calixto Thank you, Sarah!

12:55

Fernanda Oliveira Thanks Sarah, but for apply for the UUK just my academic transcript available by my University is ok?

12:56

Sarah Moody Djonatan, I am afraid that we do not publish this information. Please look at rankings and guides for your specific course for information on which universities to apply for, there is some guidance on this on our website Renata, I do not think you will be prejudiced for this. If the universities require more information they ask us to obtain this for them Fernanda, yes the transcript (translated into English) produced by your University is what you will need to attach

12:58

Mayra Calixto Sarah, Should I include all subjects of my course in the academic transcript translation or only that I have done and enrolled?

12:59

Fernanda Oliveira Ok!! And when you'll have the answer about the transcript for the PSE?

12:59

Djonatan Wilian de Lima Sarah, in the academic aspect, is there any exigences in order for us to continue on the SWB scheme... like obtaining above some specific grade ou attending some specific percentage of classes?

12:59

Fernanda Solon Capobianco Sarah, thank you very much for this list of translators! You've helped a lot!

13:00

Sarah Moody Mayra, only those you have completed on and if possible those that you are enrolled on. It should be a translation of the 'historico' produced by your university in Brazil Fernanda, if possible please obtain an official translation for when you apply to SwB UK. If not and you require a PSE course, you will need to submit a copy that is translated and verified, and would then need to obtain an official translation if made an official offer

13:01

Mayra Calixto Ok, Sarah Thank you again!

13:01

Renata Nogueira Sarah, and just one more thing.. "Renata, no it needs to be someone who is a translator and does this for their job". Both for those will need to do the PSE and those who will not need, the transcript translation needs to be translated by someone who is certified to be a translator?

13:02

Sarah Moody Djonatan, students should have completed more than 20% and no more than 90% of their studies in Brazil. CsF in Brazil will be able to help provide specific guidelines that they use when considering applications. half an hour left everyone!

13:02

Fernanda De Gasperin Is important to show also extra courses that we did?

13:02

Alexandre Lage Hi Sarah I sent an email talking about the list PSE 6 months that you sent to us (Portugal-170). There are some universities in the list don't offer PSE 6. One university of three I had choosen is an example. Is there something wrong?

13:03

Djonatan Wilian de Lima

Sarah, I mean in our UK university... while we're there, are there these kinds of exigences for our stay?

13:03

Sarah Moody Renata, students that do not require a PSE course should please ask anyone, such as a teacher or lecturer, to translate the academic transcript (they should write their name, contact details and sign the translated document for you) and the home university should then verify this (this is normally done with a stamp). Some universities will not verify transcripts, in this case students need to please obtain a professional translation of the transcript

13:03

Sarah Moody Fernanda, it should be a literal translation of the academic transcript produced by your Brazilian university Alexandre, we are processing your application with the previous call (cohort 4) as your circumstances are different, and the courses that will be on offer are for the next call. Djonatan, you are required to take the same number of courses as a full time student and should check these with your home university before enrolling completely

13:06

Djonatan Wilian de Lima I think that's about it for me... thank you very much Sarah, you've helped me a lot!

13:08

Sarah Moody No problem Djonatan! Please do email sciencewithoutborders@international.ac.uk and I will try to help with any further questions

13:08

Renata Nogueira Sarah, I'm so sorry for lot of questions! Thank you for your explanations!

13:09

Renan Brando Sarah, I study on a technology course here, this somehow may prevent me from applying for a engineering course?

13:09

Sarah Moody You are welcome Renata!

13:09

Kandice Barros I'd like to thank you, Sarah, for all those questions you've answered.

13:09

Fernanda Solon Capobianco Sarah, if I obtain an official translation, it's also good to have the academic transcript verified and stamped by my university?

13:10

Sarah Moody Renan, we recommend that students please apply for courses that are the same or very similar to their course of studies in Brazil

13:10

Svio Caiubi Sarah, do we need to apply for the same course we do here in Brazil or we can choose another without risk of not being accepted? I mean, I study Computer Science but I do want to apply for gaming technology, there would be any problem? or my chances of being accepted would be lower than if I have applied to computing?

13:10

Sarah Moody Fernanda, if your translation is officially translated it does not need to be verified by your university

13:10

Svio Caiubi oh nvm, you've just answered that

13:11

Sarah Moody Savio, we recommend applying for courses that are as similar as possible to what they are studying in the Brazil - if not, universities may not be able to make offers due to previous studies not being relevant enough

13:11

Matheus Oliveira Sarah, my questions are: 1) We have to stay in UK for one year (until September 2015), but I would like to know if it is possible to negotiate with the university in order to come back to Brazil earlier, since my semester will begin in August. 2) Is it necessary that our academic transcript has the GPA in it? 3) Do universities select students by their order of choice? For example, the university X only provides offers to the students who put university X in first option? Thank you.

13:12

Felipe Gaiotto Sarah there's a site or other way that can help us find a official translator?

13:12

Fernanda Solon Capobianco But it is good to get my official translation stamped by my university or it doesn't make any difference?

13:12

Renan Brando Sarah, once again thank you very much for your time, you helped me a lot.

13:12

Marina Montanari Sarah, what students say on their PS is considered when they go to the clearing? For instance, if say that I want to study Software Engineering, it will be considered or I would be placed in a course similar to mine here in Brazil, like Business Computing or Information Systems?

13:13

Fernanda Solon Capobianco Felipe, Sarah have sent this: http://brazil.usembassy.gov/professional-services/list-oftranslators.html#rio *has

13:13

Felipe Gaiotto

Opa vlw

13:13

Mayra Calixto I got 6.0 overall on the IELTS and some of universities

13:13

Sarah Moody Matheus, If you needed to return early you would need to obtain special permission from CsF in Brazil to do this. If possible please include the GPA - ask your university in Brazil to do this for you. Universities look at academic transcripts, personal statements and English language scores when they consider applications - and definitely do not just look at preference

13:14

Mayra Calixto oops, sorry! I sent the last message by mistake!

13:14

Sarah Moody Felipe, I have posted a link to some translators further up which may be of help. If not, there should be lists widely available on the internet which can help

13:15

Fernanda De Gasperin Thank you Sarah, i'm sure that you helped us a lot!!

13:16

Sarah Moody Fernanda, if the document is officially translated it does not need to be verified as well, if your university will verify it then this is not a problem! Marina, we would try to place you on a course similar to what you are studying in Brazil if you were not placed at one of your chosen universities - unfortunately we do not have time to read personal statements! We would however look at transcripts

13:16

Sarah Moody It is then up to the universities to read personal statements and look in detail at applications 13 minutes everyone! I hope this session has helped answer your queries!

13:17

Priscila Niso Sarah, do you have any idea of how long the UUK applications will be open?

13:18

Sarah Moody Priscila, applications will be open for about 10 days - the sooner you apply after applications open the better! We check all applications carefully so that we can return those that need changes for students to correct

13:19

Priscila Niso ok, thank you Sarah!

13:21

Luisa Alban hi, is there the possibility of none of our three options of university accept us ? how can we proceed in this case? thanks

13:23

Fernanda Solon Capobianco Sarah, do you know if SWB students can usually get some sports facilities of any UK university?

13:23

Sarah Moody Luisa, if none of your three options were able to make you an offer then we would try our best to place you at an alternative university through clearing Fernanda, you should definitely be able to join sports teams within the university, or join the university gym at student rates We recommend students join societies and teams to get to know people

13:27

Fernanda Solon Capobianco Ok, Sarah. Thank you a lot for all your answers. This has been very useful!

13:27

Renata Nogueira Thank you again, Sarah!

13:27

Sarah Moody

No problem!! Please do remember that if any of you have any further questions you can email me at sciencewithoutborders@international.ac.uk

13:29

Marina Montanari Thank you very much, Sarah!

13:30

Sarah Moody Good luck

13:30

Luisa Alban Thank you!

13:40

Dbora Macedo Hi sarah. I was thinking if you can give us some tips about how to make a good personal statement Sorry if is someone had asked it befora but i did not read ql the messages

13:44

Roberta Fabricio Loose Sarah sent this, Dbora

13:45

Dbora Macedo Thanks roberta And about the time that the applications?? It will star on 10/2 until???

13:46

Marina Libonati Hi sarah, I want know if will need to make the "document does not contain anything in the police"? and prescription drugs need to be translated or just the original?

16:19

Fernanda Solon Capobianco Sarah said that registrations will last about 10 days. I didn't get your question, Marina.
