Over the last six years, in addition to the above competitive grants, I have received
research support from state governments and the federal government, foundations and
research organisations for over 30 separate research projects and research
consultancies, amounting to $800,000.

The Youth Research Centre


Under my leadership the Youth Research Centre has become recognised as the one of
Australia’s foremost youth research organisations. Now in its 20th year, the Centre has
played a significant role in shaping debates and issues in the field of youth studies.
Based in the Graduate School of Education, the Centre has a strong track record of
work with multi-disciplinary teams to generate knowledge about young people’s lives
in a context of social change. With a focus on applied and policy-related research,

projects tend to be inter-disciplinary and partnership-based. The Centre’s work can be

AWARDS

2005, Edward Clarence Dyason Universitas 21 Fellowship. Awarded by the


University of Melbourne to undertake a study program at Glasgow University and the
University of British Columbia.
2005, Inaugural recipient of the Adam Smith Award, University of Glasgow.
Awarded for research in the social sciences.
2000, Canadian Studies for Foundations in Education (CAFE) Award. Awarded for
the most significant contribution to the foundations of education 1999-2000 for the
