Um esquadro da morte uma esquadra militar armada, polcia, insurgentes, terroristas que conduzem execues extrajudiciais, assassinatos e desaparecimentos forados de pessoas como parte de uma guerra, campanha de insurgncia ou terror. Essas mortes so muitas vezes conduzidas de forma significativa para garantir o sigilo das identidades dos assassinos, de modo a evitar a prestao de contas.[1][2] Os esquadres da morte so frequentemente, mas no exclusivamente, associados com a violenta represso poltica sob ditaduras, estados totalitrios e regimes similares. Normalmente tm o apoio tcito ou expresso do Estado, como um todo ou em parte (terrorismo de Estado). Esquadres da morte podem incluir uma fora policial secreta, grupo paramilitar ou unidades oficiais do governo, com membros oriundos dos militares ou da polcia. Eles tambm podem ser organizados como grupos justiceiros. Execues extrajudiciais e esquadres da morte so mais comuns no Oriente Mdio (principalmente nos Territrios Palestinos e Iraque),[3][4][5][6][7] Amrica Central,[8][9][10] Afeganisto, Bangladesh,[11] Paquisto e parte de Jammu e Caxemira que ocupa, Sri Lanka,[12][13][14][15][16] vrias naes ou regies na frica Equatorial, [17][18] Jamaica,[19][20] Kosovo, muitas partes da Amrica do Sul, [21] Uzbequisto, partes da Tailndia[22][23] e nas Filipinas.[24][25][26][27]
