Tech I Semester, Supplementary Examinations, May - 2012 ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT ANALYSIS-I (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) Time: 3 hours Max Marks: 75 Answer any FIVE Questions All Questions carry Equal Marks ************** 1. a) Distinguish between passive and active elements with suitable examples. b) Two filament lamps A and B take 0.8A and 0.9A respectively when connected across 110V supply. Calculate the value of current when they are connected in series across a 220Vsupply assuming the filament resistance to remain unaltered. Also find the voltage across each lamp. 2. a) Explain nodal and mesh analysis with suitable examples. b) Determine the current through battery for the network shown. All resistance values are in ohms.

3. a) Define R.M.S value, average value and form factor of an alternating quantity. b) A series RL circuit having a resistance of 4 and inductive reactance 3 is connected to 100 V, 50 Hz, single phase supply. Find the current, power drawn by the circuit and power factor. 4. a) Compare series and parallel resonant circuits. b) A coil with R= 10 and L =0.2 H is in series with a capacitor of 20 m F. Determine resonant frequency, Q factor and band width. 5. a) Obtain an expression for coefficient of coupling. b) Two similar coils connected in series gave a total inductance of 600 mH and when one of the coil is reversed, the total inductance is 300 mH. Determine the mutual inductance between the coils and coefficient of coupling.

What are the different forms of expressing the sinusoidal quantity in complex form? b)The voltage of a circuit is v=200sin(t+30 ) and the current is i=50sin(t+60) Calculate i) the average power, reactive volt amperes and apparent power ii) find the circuit elements , if =100 rad/sec. 4. a) For a series resonance circuit obtain the expression for band width in terms of resonance frequency and Q-factor. b) For a series resonant circuit with constant voltage and variable frequency, obtain the frequency at which voltage across the inductor is maximum .calculate this maximum voltage when R=50 ,L=0.05H,C=20 micro farad and V=100 volts. 5. a) Define the following i) Self inductance ii) Mutual inductance iii) Static induced e.m.f iv) Dynamically induced e.m.f b) Two coils A and B having turns 100 and 1000 respectively are wound side by side on closed circuit coil of X-section 8 cm2 and mean length 80cm.The relative permeability of iron is 900.Calculate the mutual inductance between the coils.
