Course Title: Legal Environment of Business

Faculty: Subhadra Satapathy

Credits: Three

Course Description: This course provides an overview of the major areas of the law
that shape the environment in which businesses operates. Areas covered include an
introduction to law and the ethical system, dispute resolution methods, contracts,
performance of contracts, agency, sales of goods, and the laws relating to
international aspects like intellectual property, anti trust and cyber laws.

Course Objectives: At the completion of the course requirements, the student will be
able to understand:

o The nature, scope and importance of the law.

o The basic knowledge of the fundamental concepts, principles, and rules of

law and ethics that apply to business transactions.

o Different types of legal systems and the distinction between them.

o The issues involved in international contracts, sale of goods, agency,

negotiable instruments and various business forms.

o The extent to how businesses operate in global legal environment.

7. Course Policies:

A. Attendance: Regular attendance is mandatory. You must have more than 80%
attendance to be eligible to take the exams.

B. Academic Honesty: Academic honesty is an integral part of learning work

submitted by the students, except in group setting, it should reflect the work of the
individual student. Any form of academic dishonesty would be penalized at the
discretion of the course faculty.

 C. Pedagogy: Lecture, discussion, case study, assignments, and seminars would
be used to explain the principles and the application of those principles with
suitable examples. Students are expected to come prepared for the class
discussions or seminars.
