EGG OSMOMETER AIM MATERIALS APPARATUS PROCEDURE: 1.

Soak egg in vinegar to dissolve the egg shell for three days. 2. After 3 days, the egg shell will fully dissolve and the egg membrane will be exposed. 3. Egg membrane is semi-permeable! 4. Measure the mass of each eggs and name as A and B. 5. Take two beakers and fill with distilled water and concentrated sugar solution respectively.(150ml) 6. Put egg A in distilled water and egg B in concentrated sugar solution. Leave them for one hour. 7. After one hour, remove both egg and wipe the outer surface of eggs with cloth. 8. Measure and record the final mass of eggs by using electronic balance. : To study the osmosis process across semi-permeable of egg. : Egg, vinegar, distilled water, concentrated sugar solution. cloth, : Beaker, electronic balance

Result: Egg Types of solution Distilled water Concentrated sugar solution Initial mass (g) Final mass (g) Change in mass (Initial mass Final mass) (g)

A B

Questions: 1. State the observation that can be made for egg A and B after one hour. 2. Explain your answer above. 3. Complete the statement below: i. Water molecules diffuse from the region of ______ water concentration to region of ______ water concentration by __________. ii. Water concentration in egg A is _________ than water concentration of distilled water. So, water diffuse __________ the egg through the semi-permeable membrane by ___________. iii. Water concentration in egg B is _________ than water concentration of distilled water. So, water diffuse __________ the egg through the semi-permeable membrane by ___________.
