In continued efforts to attain self-reliance by way of indigenisation, development
of spares for the 1250-2E Gas Turbine Generator Turbo Compressor (TC) are being
undertaken by the Diesel and Gas Turbine (DAG) department of ND (MB). A large
number of spares are required for undertaking 5K/10K routines on the TC and RG.
Routines on GTGs of a large number of ships have been deferred due to non- availability
of these spares. Most of the lock plates required have been manufactured through
indigenous source. The developed items will be taken up for fitment trial on receipt of
bulk items.

The details of additional 08 fasteners for which bulk production clearance has
been accorded for carrying out 5,000 hourly routines on the TC are as follows:

NATURE OF DEVELOPMENT

Import substitution of fasteners through indigenous sources.

The drawing and data regarding material specifications /mechanical properties

was collected keeping in mind the criticality of the items. Heat treatment schedule
was arrived from tests on the original samples

Pilot samples have been manufactured prior to undertaking bulk production.

Approval for bulk production was accorded after dimensional compatibility

checks and verification of accompanying test reports from government approved
laboratories. The following were checked:
o Pilot sample inspection report
o Sample Drawing
o Chemical test report for material conformity
o Raw Material Procurement certificate

REMARKS

Items developed will be taken up for user trials on receipt of the remaining
fasteners.

INDIGENISATION EFFORTS- NAVAL DOCKYARD (MB)

Taking into consideration the difficulties experienced in undertaking the
routine on the 1250-2E Gas Turbine Generators, development of critical spares
has been undertaken by the yard to attain self-reliance by way of indigenisation.
08 such spares have been already developed through indigenous sources
through REVERSE ENGINEERING since the specifications and samples were
available for these spares. The salient features of the activities undertaken to
affect the process are as follows:

Identification of material specifications /Composition.
Identification of mechanical properties and special heat treatment to
be undertaken.
Acceptance checks on pilot samples.
Acceptance trials/user trial followed by compilation of report for the
