A PreAP course is one in which the curriculum is enriched and accelerated in keeping with College Board standards. An AP course is a collegelevel course that follows the College Board Advanced Placement curriculum. The students knowledge of the course curriculum is tested through the AP examination. Any student enrolled in an AP class is required to register for and take the courses AP examination. Colleges and universities have the option of accepting AP results for college credit or placement in advanced standing. Successful completion of PreAP and AP courses results in additional points for calculating GPA (refer to "GPA Calculation" on Page 5). Students should obtain a minimum average of 75 percent at the end of the first semester to continue enrollment in a PreAP or AP course. Departmental Requirements
Some Upper School departments have additional requirements for students enrolling in PreAP and AP courses. Many PreAP and AP students must complete the summer reading assignments and/or projects prior to the beginning of school. Please see the LCS Academic Advising Office for specific information. Qualified students should be enrolled in PreAP and AP courses prior to May 1.
