passed on November 14, 1 !6" To secure the #uture o# all emplo$ees o# the %hilippine &overnment, it provides and administers a pension #und that has the #ollowin& social securit$ bene#its' compulsor$ li#e insurance, optional li#e insurance, retirement bene#its, and disabilit$ bene#its #or wor()related accidents and death bene#its" *i(ewise, the GSIS mana&es the General Insurance +und as mandated b$ ,epublic Act 6 6 or the %ropert$ Insurance *aw" It provides comprehensive protection to &overnment insurable interests" MANDATE The GSIS is created b$ Commonwealth Act No" 186 that was passed on November 14, 1 !6, and later amended under ,epublic Act No" 8- 1 dated .une -4, 1 /" GSIS, as desi&ned in its charter, is a social insurance institution under a de#ined bene#it scheme" It insures its members a&ainst the occurrence o# certain contin&encies in e0chan&e #or their monthl$ premium contributions" The social securit$ bene#its available #or all GSIS members are' compulsor$ li#e insurance, optional li#e insurance, retirement bene#its, disabilit$ bene#its #or wor()related contin&encies and death bene#its" In addition, the GSIS is entrusted with the administration o# the General Insurance +und b$ virtue o# ,"A" 616 o# the %ropert$ Insurance *aw" It provides insurance covera&e to assets and properties that have &overnment insurable interests" COVERAGE The GSIS covers all &overnment wor(ers irrespective o# their emplo$ment status, e0cept' ) 2embers o# the .udiciar$ and Constitutional Commissions who are covered b$ separated retirement laws3 ) Contractual emplo$ees who have no emplo$ee)emplo$er relationship with their a&encies3 ) 4ni#ormed members o# the Armed +orces o# the %hilippines and the %hilippine National %olice, includin& the 5ureau o# .ail 2ana&ement and %enolo&$ and the 5ureau o# +ire %rotection" BENEFITS AND SERVICES The principal bene#it pac(a&e o# the GSIS consists o# compulsor$ and optional li#e insurance, retirement, separation, and emplo$ee6s compensation bene#its"

SERVICE PRIVILEGES Active GSIS members are entitled to the #ollowin& loan privile&es' salar$, polic$, emer&enc$ and housin& loans, sub7ect to the cross)de#ault polic$ o# the S$stem 8C*I%9" ORGANIZATION The &overnin& and polic$)ma(in& bod$ o# the GSIS is the 5oard o# Trustees, the members o# which are appointed b$ the %resident o# the %hilippines" The GSIS wor(#orce consists o# !,1:4 emplo$ees, 1-; o# whom are in the <ead =##ice while the remainin& 48; are in the 5ranches" To date, the GSIS has 11 ,e&ional =##ices, -1 5ranch =##ices and 18 Satellite =##ices nationwide"
