What We Do
Happy Homes is a new program in the Twin Cities to welcome and connect, inform and help new immigrants to Minneapolis and St. Paul. By way of a comprehensive communication plan, Happy Homes wishes to first welcome the high influx of newcomers from other countries and connect them with their established immigrant communities and local leaders. Following, to keep these communities and families thrivinghusbands and wives, parents and childrenthere is a need to inform new immigrants of Minnesota and US social and legal norms. Additionally, Happy Homes wishes to help new immigrants, if they find themselves in legal trouble due to State or Federal legal issues. Teaching new immigrants in advance that actions in their country of origin could be a legal or social service problem in this country, Happy Homes plans to reduce the number of domestic and child, abuse and neglect cases. Happy Homes will provide what new immigrants need- to be welcomed and connected, informed and helped, so as to acclimate and thrive in their new Minnesota homes.

Happy Homes informs new immigrants in Minnesota of US societal norms pertaining to parenting practices, child abuse and neglect laws, as well as domestic violence issues from an American legal and social perspective. Because this is a new program, Happy Homes will be creating an awareness campaign with an emphasis on targeting: new immigrants, their community leaders, and established immigrant audiences. Happy Homes wants to keep these communities - child, parent, and families - together. The US cultural/legal system sometimes has different laws and regulations than their country of origins and culturally acceptable behavior in their home countries could have legal repercussion in this country. With the high influx of immigrants from other societies coming to US, the need has come about to inform them of this countrys social norms and to keep cultural differences from being a factor that brings new immigrants into adverse contact with the legal system. Happy Homes will provide what these new immigrants need to thrive and assimilate to the new cultural standards, so legal referrals will decline in these communities.
