Preamble
In the first cycle we designed a Concrete mix to achieve a strength of 100MPa by exploring various combinations of fines and microfines (Alccofine 1203 and Microsilica). It was established that 100 MPa was achieved only when Alccofine 1203 was used (in fact it was 12% dosage). In this cycle, which was second cycle, the objective was to optimize the mix design and work for M100 grade. We did reset the mix design but optimized the structure and following changes were made
W/c ratio was changed from 0.245 to 0.23 16mm aggregate CAI were reduced to 24% FA was increased by 3% of its earlier proportion Admixture dosage was increased to 2% All other things remained as earlier
The targeted flow was 750mm on flow table and 5 Sec in V Funnel
U Tube flow
100% Alccofine
H1 = H2
Observations on Mix: 1. Fresh Mix was very cohesive but flowable 2. It was not sticky when Alccofine was used but as the dosage of Microsilica increased the stickiness also increased. 3. Matrix was quite integrated and no signs of surface bleeding or seggregation.
Strength in Mpa
Even one cube strength crossed 120MPa mark and was actually 120.5MPa We have now achieved M100 Grade exclusively with Alccofine 1203
Conclusions
High density of the mix was achieved and subsequently higher packing Cube failure pattern was dumb bell showing aggregate crushing dominently The trial has established compatibility of PPC and Alccofine to act simultaneously in the mix. Alccofine was used as cement substitute and since fly ash was already present in PPC, no further addition was possible and hence not done. As far as cement is concerned, it can be established that a strength of 100MPa with Ambuja PPC is now possible. The trial was made with the locally available materials and so their capability in a concrete mix was also established.
