This coursework evaluates learning outcome 1, 2, 3 and 4.

COURSEWORK: TASK 1(a): Types of stories (30%)

In pairs, select one story suitable for Year 1 (world of self), Year 3 (world of stories) and Year 6 (world of knowledge). For each story selected, justify the appropriateness based on the selection criteria for young learners. (1500 words) TASK 1(b): Devising activities (40%) Individually, use one of the stories you have selected in Task 1(a) and devise suitable activities to allow students participation and provide responses for a one hour lesson. (1000 words) Guideline: 1. Identify the content/learning standard of the lesson with reference to the primary school syllabus. 2. Formulate the learning objectives of the lesson. 3. Identify suitable activities to elicit reader response. 4. Describe each activity by providing clear elaboration of each stage. 5. You may include the teaching aids in the appendix section.

TASK 2(a): Storytelling (10%) You are going to use storytelling as a technique to teach your students. Choose one story that you think is suitable for the 20 minute storytelling session. The use of props or aids in your session is encouraged. For your evaluation of storytelling, your Head of English Panel or a colleague will give you feedback using Appendix 1. Enclose a video as evidence of conducting this task. Guidelines An effective storyteller should demonstrate the following traits: i. Voice Mechanics Speaks with an appropriate volume for the audience to hear. Employs clear enunciation. Uses non-monotonous, vocal expression to clarify the meaning of the text.

ii. Face/Body/Gesture Expressively uses non-verbal communication to clarify the meaning of the text. iii. Focus Concentration is clear. Eye contact with audience is engaging. Maintains a charismatic presence in space (stage presence).

iv. Characterization Characters are believable to listener. Storyteller's natural voice is differentiated from character voices. v. Use of Space: Storyteller seems comfortable, relaxed and confident in front of listeners. Storyteller maintains clear spatial relationships for characters and narrator. vi. Pacing: The story is presented efficiently and keeps listeners' interest throughout. vii. Innovation Employs a unique or creative use of language, sound, or body language. Creatively presents the sequence of events. Teller's perception of the meaning of the story is artfully expressed or suggested through the telling.

TASK 2(b): Reflection (20%) Write a reflection after you have conducted your storytelling session (1000 words). Your reflection should be based on: i. Your personal experience in preparing and conducting the session. ii. The comments given by your colleague in Appendix 1
