Technical report on Predictive Emergency braking Vamsi krishna.

C
This document reports a study whose objective was to gain a better understanding on need and function of predictive emergency braking system. In order to reduce the risk of rear end collision a concept of predective emergency braking system came into focus. This system which is based on the networking of a radar sensor which made use of Electronic Stability Program(ESP) or Electronic Stability Control(ESC), continously analyzes the traffic ahead. The preditve emergency system is an active safety system becomes active as soon as vehicle gears up and supports the driver at all speeds at all time. To avoid the risk of collision the predictive emergency braking alerts the driver by recursive prior warnings at speeds above 30KM/H (18mph) and in worst case provides active braking support as well .If the collision is unavoidable, the system reduces the impact speed and is therefore able to mitigate the consequences of the crash. The working scenario of Predictive Emergency Braking sytem is that it correlates the optimum speed of the vehicle with detected distance of the preciding vehicle.when the distance is becoming critically short at a vehicle speed above 30km/h , it prepares the braking system for potential emergency braking. Thus, full braking power is available to the driver valuable hundreths of seconds earlier. In the case if driver fails to react to the critical situation and the PEB detects that the vehicle is continuing to approach the vehicle ahead, the system warns the driver by means of visual and/or audible signal followed by a brief but clearly perceptible brake jerk which makes the driver to aware of immediate risk of a collision and can react earlier to potentially avoid the rear end collision by braking or by an avoidance maneuver. The time at which warning is given is based on the predetermined stoping distance and average riders reaction time.when making the calculation, the system can also take into account whether the driver is active or inactive and there must be warned earlier. Reduces the speed and supports the driver when braking There can be an elapse of time to react for the critical situation by the driver, this can be used perfectly and effectively by the PEB by making collision warnings as it can intiate partial braking in the detected rear end collision situation. This intervention decelerates the vehicle and gives the driver more time to react. As soon as the driver presses the brake pedal the system provides the braking support. To do this the system continously calculates the degree of deceleration needed to avoid the collision. When the PEB detects that the driver is not braking hard enough it increases the braking pressure to the required level so that the driver can attempt to bring the vehicle to a standstill before a collsion occurs.
