Sheer amount of electronic gadgets from cheap to high-end have infiltrated every day live in India. Its toxic constituents are posing a big challenge of a different kind where e-waste cycling industry is largely unorganized. At this juncture, some startups have ventured into this uncharted terrain to address growing challenges of e-waste. They collect discarded ewaste from door steps, transports them to its facility for segregation, refurbishment, size reduction. They are receiving global recognition from bodies like the World Economic Forum. B K Soni started e-waste recycling activities in January, 2005 from Mumbai, at a time; there was no organised recycling facility in India. His company Eco Recycling is serving more than 300 corporate entities across the country and its first e-waste recycling company which is listed on BSE. It provides services like recycling, logistics, data destruction, and remarketing. Attero Recycling was founded by two brothers Nitin Gupta and Rohan Gupta in the year 2007. It has developed its own technology that extracts precious metals, including, copper, lead, and gold, and also recycles hazardous materials emanating from electrical appliances. Attero Recycling handles 500 tone e-wastes every month. It handles the complete processing of waste, provide client friendly solutions like pickup of e-waste from the premises and complete data security. This clean startup has recognised as a technology pioneer by the World Economic Forum in 2012.

GreenTek Reman is an end-to-end e-waste recycling company which is equipped with a separate R&D division and an automated facility for e-waste management. If anyone request for a pick-up then team GreenTek Reman will act to get the E-waste collected within a stipulated period. It follows a mantra of REDUCE-REUSE-RECYCLE to pave the way for a greener and cleaner environment. Similarly, other players offer e-waste management services with an objective of an eco-friendly solution. All these startups are registered with the concerned bodies in India and bind to follow their norms. EcoCentric is a team of professionals working towards partnering with companies who want a solution for their e-waste. It has a 2 tier structure comprising a management team and an advisory Team. Management team takes care of the day to day operations whereas advisory team comprises of personnel from different functions and different locations who share their domain expertise with the management team. Earth Sense provides comprehensive e-waste management & handling services. It collects all types of e-waste includes batteries, CFLs, tube lights, CDs, toner cartridges, floppies and more. It extends its services across the Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kerala. In India, consumer durable segment have emerged as the fastest growing segment thanks to expanding purchasing power of household across the country. Studies elsewhere said that Indias electronic industry is growing by 20 per cent a year and can expect to have generated 800,000 tons of e-waste by 2012. By 2015, India expects to have two billion PCs and a mobile phone subscriber base of 600 million. Major contributors of e-waste are corporations from public to private sectors in form of monitors, printers, keyboards, CPUs, PVC wires, TV, and mobiles. In this backdrop, these clean tech startups look at e-waste not just as useless stuffs, but as an important resource that can be make a good business.
