ISL WK 1 WK 2 TASKS In pairs, students choose a text and identify noun and pronoun references; and identify adjectives and their functions. Display answers in the classroom for feedback. Compare and contrast the sentence types. Classify the questions. Reflect on the questions and the responses elicited by the lecturer and students. Individually, rewrite the phonetic transcription of a given paragraph in orthographic form. Select or record a listening text (from various media) and listen critically to the long/short vowels, consonants, diphthongs and trip thongs pronounced in the text. In groups, download an audio recording of a news report (eg. BBC, CNN etc.), and transcribe the recording. Individually, make an audio recording of the report in students own voice and present it in class. Write a short reflection of the experience on the activity. In groups, listen critically to specified text type assigned (eg. news, talks, documentaries, advertisements), and comment orally on the text in class. Individually, research on topics pertaining to subject matter as a preparation for Oral Presentation (if deem necessary). Form a reading circle: *organize the information in the form of a graphic organizer, *draw inferences and conclusions based on given tasks, *create a graphic representation of the text read. In groups, surf the Internet: *select examples of any critics and write a critic. Display all the critics in class. In groups, select a paragraph from various sources. Identify the topic sentence, supporting details, linking and concluding sentences. In groups, surf the Internet for samples of essays of different text types. Select at least two(2) types, compare and contrast the organizational; pattern of the text types. Apply principles of writing different text types to improve on the writing skills. In groups, reorganize and rewrite the drafts. Individually, write a 400-450 word essay based on the revised outline. Carry out peer assessment based on peer feedback forms.
