Sarah Prince Womens Bible Study Isaiah 5 Resources Used: www.studylight.org The Message of Isaiah by Barry Webb www.workingpreacher.

er.org This piece of scripture is unparalled and is truly a work of art It is in fact an outstanding example of the way the inspiring Spirit employed human language to convey the divine message." (Grogan) Today again we see tension again in Isaiah. There is a tension between the glorious destiny that calls to Israel and the awful reality of its present condition How often do we feel stuck at the same place? Called ahead and dreaming of what could be but stuck in a horrible reality that feels like it will never end? Isaiah 5:1-2 This scripture is about a vineyard that is well taken care of by someone who loves it very much. It is also on a fruitful hill. Ground is well prepared. Choice stock planted in there. There is a tower to protect it. Provision made to collect the fruit through the winepress. But the bible says that even though it was given all the time, care, and love in the world, instead this vineyard produced wild grapes. That is exactly what you would expect if NOTHING had been done to it. These berries would have been poisonous and foul-smelling. It was the description of self-willed and sinful people who had been given a covenant but spoiled it. Isaiah 5:3-4 The vineyard is a parable to teach Gods people and now they must consider it God had done all his part to harvest the fruit there is nothing more he could have done

What are the ways that God tries NOW to reach down to us and show us His love? In the New Testament, Paul warned, We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. (2 Corinthians 6:1) Of course, the vineyard doesnt do anything on its own, but it has the choice to receive the work of the farmer. In this instance, the work of the vineyard has been done in vain When we look at our lives, our church, our home, where has the Lord tried to harvest the vineyard in vain? How have you not allowed God to work in you? John 15 shows us Gods dream for us as the vineyard: 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Fathers glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. This scripture reminds us that we can do NOTHING without Jesus. Why do we try to do things on our own, with our own strength? We need to know that only Jesus can truly help us to bear fruit, and apart from Him we will always be like the Isaiah 5 vineyard. Galatians 5 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness,

goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. How do we cultivate the Holy Sprit in our lives? How do we open ourselves up the BEAR FRUIT?
