OFFICE OF THE COLLEGE STUDENT COUNCIL 1st Public Hearing on the Necessity of Restructuring Public Higher Education Institutions through Amalgamation The 1st Public Hearing on the Necessity of Restructuring Public Higher Education Institutions through Amalgamation was held last February 17, 2014 at Provincial Capitol Building, Boac, Marinduque. The hearing was conducted to hear the sides of different concerned individuals from four SUCs in MIMARO about their stands and opinions in the said project. Dr. Jesse Zamora, Dr. Enya Marie Apostol, Mr. Jhobert Macalalad, Mr. Ely Vargas, Ms. Wilma Ramirez and Mr. Romnick Amparo arrived at the venue at 8:00 a.m. The program was started through singing of the Philippine National Anthem followed by an invocation. The Representative of the Lone District of Marinduque, Rep. Regina Ongsiako Reyes wholeheartedly welcomed the participants of the hearing. An opening statement on the MIMARO public hearing was given by Rep. Roman T. Romulo, the CHTE Chairman. Ms. Frances Melanie U. Mauricio, the acting CHTE acting secretary introduced the CHTE members/delegates, resource person and guests. Mr. Napoleon Imperial, the Deputy Executive Director of CHED gave the rationale behind the CHED proposed MIMARO Regional University System (RUS) Amalgamation Model. One of the governors of MIMARO provinces, in person of Gov. Carmencita O. Reyes the Provincial Head of Marinduque gave her statement regarding the Amalgamation of State Colleges in the region of MIMARO. An open forum/public consultation was first initiated by Mr. Romnick Amparo, the student trustee of MinSCAT; Mr. Jerome Madrona, student regent of Romblon State University (RSU); and Mr. Ramil Ricalde, student trustee of Marinduque State College. The open forum was also participated by some representatives of the faculty of different SUCs namely: Mr. Jhobert Macalalad of MinSCAT, Dr. Alexander Formento of RSU and Mr. Jaime Vasquez of MSC respectively. Every SUCs concerning the amalgamation process their representatives opinions; Mr. Ely Vargas of MinSCAT, Dr. Venezir Maravilla of RSU and Mr. Juan Fernandez of MSC. To end the forum and public consultations the different presidents of SUCs gave their opinions and insights on how amalgamation works. Dr. Arnold Venturina, the president of OMSC first followed by Dr. Arnulfo De Luna the president of RSU, Dr. Romulo Malvar the president of MSC and lastly Dr. Jesse Zamora the president of MinSCAT. Rep. Roman Romulo, the CHTE Chairman gave the closing remarks. Prepared by:
